This page is divided into different sections. Each section is a different world. There are three different worlds in Final Fantasy V so therefore there is only three sections on this page. Each side quest mentioned on a certain section must be done on the world pertaining to that section alone. Once you miss a side quest, on a certain world, you miss it forever, in most cases. Enjoy reading this intense side quest guide. Have any questions? Contact me via e-mail. To do this side quest go to Walz castle. Once there enter the castle to the main room and take the stairs to the right, then take the lower right path, here you can walk through the canal. On the upper part of the canal you will find a waterfall, enter through it to reach the Water Tower. Here there's no item or multiple ways, so just keep climbing up the tower until you reach a floor where you will see a green orb in the center of the room. Before trying to take or tuch the green orb, try to learn the Frog Song from the enemy Elf Toad. Afterwards proceed to tuch the green orb thing and Shiva asks if you think you can defeat her. This starts the fight to gain this summon.
NAME | HP | LEVEL | WEAKNESS | ABP | ITEMS |
Shiva | 1,500 | 11 | Fire | 5 | None |
Ice Commander | 600 | 4 | Fire | 0 | None |
This battle can be very easy, just bring along a black mage. Have this person cast Fire 2 often. Attack with all of your other players and cast Cure 2 with your white mage if needed. Your Fire 2 spell will damage her for about 600 HP. Repeat this on the next turn and you will defeat her within no time. Then it will be easy to defeat the Ice Commanders because most of the powerful attacks belonged to Shiva. After the battle you will learn the Summon Shiva.
TYCOON CASTLEI suggest for you to do this side quest after the North Mountain scenario. To find the castle of Tycoon head back to the first meteorite where you met Reina, then fly north from the meteorite and you will find the castle. When you enter the castle the Chancellor welcomes Reina and says now that Renia is back they can start to rebuild their Kingdom. Reina says that the entire world is in danger and she must leave the castle soon and that the King is alive. The Chancellor says, in response, that he will take care of the castle until she comes back, he then asks if you can at least spend the night at the castle. To this Reina accepts.
In the middle of the night Reina wakes up and go out of her room. She finds Faris thinking about something, so Reina asks if Faris is her sister or not, Faris tries to deny the fact. Then she leaves, but Reina can't accept it, Faris' pendant is identical to Reina's pendant. By the morning you can look around the castle for some items, in the storeroom you will find the Chancellor. He tells you that the treasures were kept safe until the day that they could be given to you. You can proceed, then, to take everything in the store room of the castle.
JACHOL VILLAGEJachol Village is located on the very southwest part of the map. Here there's not many things to do but it's very important to play the piano in this town, as you did in the other towns. Buy anything you think you may need and leave.
JACHOL CAVEThere's not many things to see here, and the ways are simple. The treasures do not contain good items. Continue in the cave until you see a lot of switchs, wait for some time and real one will show itself. Check also an empty chest that works like a switch. In the end of this cave there is a chest with a Shock Whip, but if you released Lone Wolf before this point you will only get a note saying "Lone Wolf, the pickpocket, was here". In the end of the cave there's also a wall that you can climb up, you can't do nothing right now, but this wall will be useful later, much later.
EASTERLY VILLAGEHere there's some things you can do, first, check the flowers on the left part of the town and a hole will appear, a toad will pop up, and you will learn the Toad spell. Then go to the upper left part of the town and try to tuch the standing still sheep, you will be kicked over the fence near by, there you can talk to a bard and learn the "Love Song". Before leaving also play the piano and stock up on any things you many be needing.
LEARNING SUMMON RAMUHTo learn the Summon Ramuh, you have to fight and defeat him. To encounter him, just wander around in the forest east of the Easterly Village, you will most likly find him without taking to long.
NAME | HP | LEVEL | WEAKNESS | ABP | ITEMS |
Ramuh | 4,000 | 21 | None | 5 | None |
There's a lot of good attacks you can use against him including Shiva and Ifrit. You can also throw Shurikens at him and finish him in no time. It's good silence Ramuh, so he can't cast spells on you, then you will easily win and, as a result, get the summon, Ramuh.
RIKKS VILLAGEHere you can learn something from Bartz's past, talk to the people here and you will learn why he can't stand heights. Also check the box on his old house and you will see a flashback from his past. Talk to the man that now lives on his old house to learn the "Temptation Song". Buy anything you want and also stay at the inn for free. This is also a good place to return to if you want to rest for free, because the offer of a free nights rest never goes away.
To learn the summon Shoat you need, first of all, to have the submarine. Once you have one, dive underwater and go to the topmost bullet point on the map of the underwater world, that will take you to an island. There you can fight the summon Shoat as a normal enemy on the world map, so just be patient and you will enventualy face him.
NAME | HP | LEVEL | WEAKNESS | ABP | ITEMS |
Shoat | 5,000 | 38 | None | 0 | Shoat |
An easy battle, attack him with your most powerful attacks, magic or physical and just make sure to have a couple of Softs because he will turn your party members into stone quite often. After the battle use the Shoat item you won to teach the summon Shoat to all of your characters.
EASY MONEYTo reach this place just go east of Kelb and enter the cave on the mountain, here you can get a lot of money, but can also be easily knocked out by the Gilgame enemy. This enemy appears often near the right most section of the cave where you get the most money. It is a fact that you won't be able to explore the entire area without fighting Gilgame enemy at least once, so you have to be ready. When you fight him, have someone cast Golem on the party and keep using Ice 3 on him. You will eventualy defeat him doing this, and potentialy, not have a scratch on you.
To reach Crescent Town, fly your airship to the most southeastern town. There enter Minstrel's House where Minstrel asks you to play something on the panio, do it, then talk to him to learn the "Power Song". Here you can also learn something about Mirage Village, your next stop.
MIRAGE VILLAGEThe Mirage Town can't be located using the map, but to find it isn't that hard. Fly with your airship to the southwestern part of the Crescent Town island, there you will see a small forest area. Walk on this forest and you will enter the Mirage Town. Here there are several things to do, have someone equipped with the "Secret" ability and you will, along the course of seaching the town, find a Thief's Knife in a barrel. You will also find the last piano, so you can now become the piano master. You should notice that this town has two merchants on every shop, this means you may have to search for the second merchant some of the time. In Mirage Town you can also find the a black chocobo that will allow you to do another two side quests later on.
PIANO MASTER & THE LAST SONGAfter having played the last piano at Mirage Village, go to Crescent Town again and visit the Minstrel's House again. While in this house play a tune with the panio and talk to the Minstrel once done. If you do this you will learn the last song, the "Level Song".
AROUND THE WORLDIn Mirage Village, there's a man that asks you to go around the world ridding a yellow chocobo, and he will give you a reward. Go outside of the town and take a look on the map to see where Boko is. Take Boko and start to move around the world, it is not that hard since the world is all connected. Do it and return to Mirage Town, talk to the man, and he will give you the Mirage Vest.
BEHIND EASTERLY WATERFALLSRemember Easterly Falls? You can go behind it ridding Boko, due to the fact that he can walk on shallow water. Just take Boko and make your way through the small canal near the waterfall, there you can get the Magic Lamp, that allows you to call a summon in decending order, from most powerful to weakest, without MP consumption.
MAN OR CHICKEN, YOU DECIDEGo to Moore Village and, once there, enter the house on the bottom left corner of the village. To enter the house go behind it and walk down twards the house. You will walk right through the house into a maze of the forest. If you manage to traverse through this maze then you will come to an clearing. This clearing will apear when you reach the end, and only when you reach the end. Once at the clearing there is an old man that says you can get a weapon of your choice, either the Brave Blade on the right side or the Chicken Blade on the left. The Brave Blades power is determined by how many times you fought, instead of running, before obtaining it now. Therefore if you escaped from a lot of battles then the Chicken Blade will be the choice to make, but on the other hand, if you stayed to fight most of the battles up to this point, then the Brave Blade will be the wiser of the choices.
MR. KNOW-IT-ALLMove your airship to the town of Karnak, then land on the water south if it, dive underwater and you will see a hole on the ocean floor. Enter it and you will find a psychic old man who says that he knows all about your adventure, and lets you see how many times you fought, how many monsters you've killed, how many times you saved your game, the total experience you've earned, and the percentage of treasures you found.
SPELL & STAFF: THE ULTIMATE COMBOBefore going to the N-Zone, there are two things you should do, the first is to learn the "Guardian" Blue Magic. To do it, fly your airship to the surface of the area of the Sunken Walz Tower. Then land your airship in the waters surface and sail around until you fight an enemy called Sting Ray, this can take some time. Make sure someone in my party has the ability "Control" and control the sting ray when you face it. Once the sting ray is under your control make him cast the guardian magic upon the character with the "learn" ability equiped.
The other thing that needs to be done is obtaining the best staff of the game. Go to the forest area around Lugor Border Town, there fight until you find an enemy called T-wrecks. Make sure to use "Steal" on this enemy before killing him, because if you're lucky you can get the Judge Staff on the first try, but most of the time you will only get an Antidote.
RIBBONS ONE TO MANYTo get another Ribbon, you must at least have gotten one, then make your way to Lugor Border Town. Here go to the equipment shop and have someone equipped with the "Secret" ability, it will show the way that leads to the little girls position. Once at her location between the desks, talk to her, she will give you her "most prized possession", a ribbon. She gives you this item because you are going to try and fighting X-Death. But on the other hand, if you don't have a Ribbon, she will only ask for a Ribbon.
LEARNING MIME: THE LAST JOBRemember the Walz Tower that sunk from Bartz's World, yes, it still exists, but it has sunken to the ocean depths, as you may has expected. To reach this place you must already have your airship upgraded to a submarine. If you have already done so then look, underwater, for the top right bullet point, there you will find the sunken tower. Enter it and you will have 7 minutes to walk around here. The way is not too long but you will fight in real time, so have someone equipped with the ability "Dust Bomb". After some time you will reach a Crystal Shard which is the last shard that you couldn't get from the first world. Examine it and a boss fight starts.
NAME | HP | LEVEL | WEAKNESS | ABP | ITEMS |
Gogo | infinite | N/A | N/A | 0 | None |
A very easy battle, all you have to do is to obey him, he says that he can mimic any move you do, but if you mimic him you will win for sure. Do so, just mimic everything he does. Well, "but he does nothing", you may ask. That's it, all he can do is to mimic you, since he does nothing by himself. So if you do nothing too you are mimicing him. After just sitting there doing nothing the battle will end and you get the last Crystal Shard as a reward and learn the very useful Mime job class.
LEARNING HYDRA SUMMONReturn to Pirate's hideout and there you will see a scene where Hydra, the water dragon from the first ship you ever take control of, decides to help Faris one last time. It becomes the Hydra summon, allowing the party to summon it in battle. This summon is lightning based and is much more powerful than Ramuh. You can also press the switch in the lower left most part of the cave, if you have done so in the past, to open up a path in the first door. This door is located directly above the switch.
LEARNING SUMMON ODINRemember the Basement of Val Castle, it was locked right, well it is now possible to get to the other side of the door. It's still locked up but this time you can reach it via the cave near by, Jachol Cave. Enter this cave and go all the way to the end. Here climb the wall and you will come up in the basement of Val Castle on the other side of the door. Continue to walk north, away form the wall, until you can walk no more. Here you will find a green orb, tuch it to start a conversation with Odin himself. He asks you if you can defeat him in one minute, and then the battle ensues.
NAME | HP | LEVEL | WEAKNESS | ABP | ITEMS |
Odin | 17,000 | 2 | None | 0 | None |
This battle is not too hard, you will have only one minute to defeat him, but he doesn't have a high HP. Start out by casting Golem to protect your party from his powerful Vengeance Sword attack that can kill all your party if you are low enough on HP. Then have the party use powerful magic like Bolt 3 or Hydra, you can throw shurikens or attack him with the "Sword Shot" ability with a powerful weapon if you think it is needed. After the fight you will learn the powerful summon Odin.
PHOENIX TOWERTo reach this place, you need to have gotten the black chocobo from Mirage Town. Once obtained fly him far north from Crescent Town and you will eventualy see a place surrounded by mountains. Here look for a patch of trees, land there. From the forest, head west and you will find the tower on the bottom most section of desert. This tower has thirty floors to climb up, but they aren't that hard. I suggest you have someone with the "Dust Bomb" ability equipped, so you can escape from random battles if you have any problems.
There are four kinds of floors here, floors with just a stairway that you have to climb up, two kinds of floors with hidden stairsways in which you will have to check the walls to find your way up. On these floors, if you check the wrong wall you will have to fight a monster. These monsters are random and not that difficult to defeat. Another kind of floor in which you will encounter has pots on each of the right and left sides. One will have money and the other will have a fight with a Magic Pot. Magic Pots are defeated by throwing Elixirs at them. Some times they will keep on asking for an Elixir, when this happens you must keep forking over more untill he goes away. You can also use the mime ability on the Magic Pot to give him an Elixir for free. When the Magic Pot goes away, you are rewarded with 100 ABP. This is somewhat of a worthy trade. Once you reach the rooftop, you will find King Tycoon's Dragon. Krile says that the Dragon wants to do something to help Reina, you will also see a flashback that shows why Reina remembers her mother when she is near this Dragon. After the flashback the Dragon sacrifices himself, by throwing himself off of the tower, and becomes a Phoenix. Your party receives the very useful summon Phoenix.
LEARNING SUMMON BAHAMUT: THE KING OF THE DRAGONSTo fight Bahamut you need the black chocobo, land your black chocobo in the same forest area near the Phoenix Tower, then move northeast and you will find the North Mountain at the end of the narrow path. It has the same weak enemies you fought on Bartz's World, so you won't have problem reaching the top. At the very top you will start a scene where the party can see the ultimate dragon in the distance. Bahamut will fly over the mountain and start a battle with the party.
NAME | HP | LEVEL | WEAKNESS | ABP | ITEMS |
Bahamut | 40,000 | 99 | None | 20 | None |
It's a tough battle, but not as hard as it was in Final Fantasy IV. At the start of the battle cast Carbuncle on the party, then keep attacking Bahamut with Holy or Meteo, also have a Lancer jump on Behamut continuously. Doing the spells designated and the jumping of the lancer will deal a lot of damage to the dragon. If you equip someone with 2-swords and Sshot you will kill him even faster. After awhile he will attack with Mega Flare, that will be reflected on him, if carbuncle is still in effect, (recast if effects wear off) and cause damage of somewhere in the vicinity of the high 8,000's or low 9,000's HP of damage. This will most likly take away whatever life he still had and kill him.
