We did the hike up to Sky Pond as a prelude to climbing the Petite Grepon, but the hike is absolutely beautiful and worthy of doing all by itself. You start out along a very popular tourist trail, but at each fork (the first after a couple of miles) you leave behind more and more people. You hike by two lakes on the way with only moderate elevation gain - The Loch and Embryo Lake, but then the fun really begins.
You hit the beautiful Timberline Falls, and then you hike up the steep section right next to the falls. You literally hike right up a stream! It's at this point you leave almost everyone behind, and the best part is yet to come. The trail narrows, but is still easy to follow to Glass Lake, and then further up to Sky Pond. At Sky Pond, you are in a fantastic cirque, surrounded by Taylor Glacier, Sharkstooth, the Petite Grepon and the Saber to name a few of the spires and formations that rise around you. Enjoy the scenery and return the way you came. Be careful on the waterfall!
