The Tetons. We (my wife and I) first visited Teton National Park in October, 1994, and it was our reason for moving out west. We did a day hike in the park and fell in love with the spectacular scenery, wildlife, and seemingly limitless hikes in the area.
We have been to the Tetons (Grand Teton National Park) three times total, and every
trip has been fantastic. We try to go every year, and hike some new trails. The town of
Jackson is also a great place to spend some time. It has a touristy, main strip that is a
lot of fun. There are t-shirt shops and restaurants and gift shops, and everyone is having
a good time buying gourmet ice-cream and shopping. If you hate that kind of thing, the
park is only minutes away, and you can just get into the backcountry and forget the
tourist thing. We enjoy the town, however, and usually spend one day wandering around it.
You will also drive past the Museum of Wildlife Art as you are heading to the park from
Jackson, and it is worth the price of admission. Some of the pictures (in my opinion) are
ones you will walk past quickly, but there are also some amazing ones, and some great
historical information. Add to that the cool sculptures and special exhibits, and it's
worth stopping at for a couple of hours.
