Lupita Aquino-Kashiwahara

is an award-winning director who hails from a political clan. She is sister to the late opposition leader Ninoy Aquino who was assassinated in the twilight years of the Marcos regime. She won the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Award in 1976 as best director for the year's best picture winner, Minsa'y Isang Gamu-gamo. Her other memorable and notable productions include Alkitrang Dugo (1975) - her debut inspired by Nobel laureate William Golding's novel, Lord of the Flies; the luscious horror-suspense flick, Magandang Gabi sa Inyong Lahat (1977) and the film based on the actual incident - the theft of the image of the Holy Infant Jesus - titled Ibalik Mo ang Araw sa Mundong Makasalanan (1978). She took a leave from the industry for almost ten years after making Hati Tayo sa Magdamag in 1988. Babae is her comeback film.
