Raquel Villavicencio

scriptwriter, production designer and actress Raquel Villavicencio received her bachelor's degree in communication arts from Maryknoll College in 1972. She first became interested in film in 1997 after joining a workshop organized by film directors Mike de Leon, Laurice Guillen, Pio de Castro III and Mel Chionglo. Villavicencio's forte is drama; her particular interest concerns stories about women, family life, and coming of age. Among the many films she wrote are Kisapmata, 1983; Makiusap Sa Diyos, 1991; and Hihintayin Kita Sa Langit, 1991. Villavicencio won awards for best screenplay from the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) and the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino in 1982 for Batch '81, along with co-writers Mike de Leon and Clodualdo del Mundo Jr.; again from FAP for Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin in 1984, and Pinulot Ka Lang Sa Lupa in 1987. For Reyna Films' Ikaw Pa Lang Ang Minahal in 1993, she swept the Urian, Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS), and the FAP and Young Critics Circle derbies.

Raquel Villavicencio is a recipient of the Best Writer Award of the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation in 1993; the Bayani and Culiat Award for Journalism in 1996 and the Achievement Award in Film at the Pampanga Press Club in 1997.
