City After Dark, Manila By Night

At the height of the Marcos regime, Bernal uncovers the other face of Manila on film by depicting the bad and ugly aspects of life in the city - unemployment, prostitution, drug addiction, and lack of decent housing. Bea, the blind masseuse; Kano, the lesbian drug addict; and Baby, the innocent provincial girl are victims of these social ills. One gets pregnant and turns into a prostitute to earn a living while the other gets caught by the police for pushing illegal drugs. Ironically, it is Bea, the blind girl who finds her way in the dark and out of the mess in which she finds herself.
