Mumbaki

Inspired by the Department of Health's Doctors to the Barrio Program, Mumbaki or "medicine man" is the story of a young, city-educated doctor who returns to his roots in Banaue to bury his father, an Ifugao chieftain killed by a rival tribe. At his father's burial he is persuaded to stay to fulfill his duty as Mumbaki (that is, healer/priest/warrior) and avenge his father's murder. But he is torn between his calling and his culture. This film was cited as the year's Best Picture by the independent Young Critics Circle and the PMPC Star Awards.
