History... from Marriage
A Little Peat History
where we came from
The history of the Peat family in Japan started in 1994 when we
got married. Who Got married? Phil and Yoko!
It was May 14th, '94, and Phil's (My) parents, older sister and younger
brother had spent a night in a hotel in Mishima. This is Yoko's home town.
I don't even remember what time the wedding began or even what
I had for breakfast that morning but Grant (My brother/best man) got
dressed and got ready to leave for the church. I think we got to the
church by taxi but arn't too sure. Don't know what Yoko was doing but I
think we talked on the phone.
All I knew was getting a lot of attention. This was Yoko's and
my BIG day. Though we enjoyed it neither Yoko or I are accustomed to it
and were a little overwhelmed. Grant was a great help.
I do
however remember the bullet train ride from Kyoto to Mishima the day
before very well. The hour and a half train ride seemed very long after
not seeing Yoko for three weeks. It was a "buzz" to see Yoko and her
father meet us on the platform when we arrived.
All went very well. Yoko's church members went to great lengths
to see that all was just as it should be. They had been praying for Yoko
to "find" a husband for a couple of years and didn't believe that Yoko's
several years in missions (in USA, Malaysia and Hawaii) should mean that
she would miss out. Rather than say that God was faithful I'd like to
think it was His planed intention. Many of these people I met for the
first time the day of our wedding.
Naturally we had a good
representation of YWAM friends. (Many YWAMers drove from Osaka.) Even the
National Director, Larry Nicolas was in attendance. And of course Bryan
and Teruko Smith, it was for their wedding that I first came to Japan in
1985. It was an amazing day.
And on the 15th, the very next day, Yoko and I boarded a plain
for Singapore/Malaysia for a long honey noon. We had 28 days and then
arrived in New Zealand where we started our married life.
That is another chapter, however so I'll leave it till later to
write about that.
