It takes only one person to get a reunion started. So I decided to
give it a try. The purpose of this site is to remind, guide, and
alert everyone about the various ideas, alternatives, and problems we
might encounter along the way. Hopefully we can make this job a little
easier by starting now and meeting or e-mailing each other. We wanted
to make plans and announce our 50th reunion well in advance.
These are some possible committees and specific areas that we may want
to assign people to: Planning, Correspondence, Finance, Food, Program,
Decorations, Entertainment/Music, Set-up/Clean-up, Special Events,
Liturgy/Memorial, Booklets, Registration, and Picnic. We could have
separate committees or combine some of them together. We might like
to have a committee "at large" instead of delegating responsibilities
to various committees, the group as one committee does all the work
together. Someone needs to be elected, selected, or "drafted" from
among this group to be the chairperson. The "committee meetings"
almost become "mini-reunions" in themselves. Will we have an
"informal social" on Friday evening or some special event during the
day on Saturday (golf outing, family picnic, pool party,
etc.)? The Saturday evening function is usually the "Formal/Informal"
reunion with a combination of social hour, dinner, program, and dance.
Depending on what the reunion committees decides, here are some of
the things we should consider budgeting for when planning your
reunion:
- Stationary/envelopes/postage
- Printing cost (booklets/programs)
- Advertisements
- Telephone cost
- Name tags
- Food/Drinks
- Rental of facilities
- Entertainment (bands/music/DJ)
- Decorations (flowers/centerpieces)
- Door prizes
- Souvenirs
- Taxes
- Tips
- Gift to the school
- Guest
- Escrow balance
As to the final cost, it will obviously vary depending on what, where,
and how many events we have. I have talked to several classmates and
everyone wants to help. The girls wanted to get together for a fun
lunch one day so I hope we can set up this meeting and start planning
the 50th reunion. Please let everyone know about this site where they
can e-mail us with suggestions and ideas for the reunion. We didn't
have a large class so we should be able to locate everyone with your
help and have a fun weekend. I would love to hear from all of you.
Thanks for memories and everything.
Have a great day!
