2William 2 Lewis was in 1644 a resident of Farmington, and the first recorder of the town on its incorporation in 1645. Though one of the original "engagers," there is no evidence that he ever removed to Hadley.

(A) William 1 Lewis landed at Boston on 16 September 1632 having come to America with his wife and son William on the ship Lyon (Lion). He is said to have been born in Wales. He married Felix Collyns (Collins) and they lived in England for a time which is where their son William 2 was born. William 1 Lewis was made a freeman on 6 November 1632. He joined the Braintree Company in August 1633, and moved to Newtown (Cambridge), Massachusetts. He was among a group which settled Hartford, Connecticut in 1636 and in 1653 he was one of the earliest settlers of Hadley, Massachusetts which he represented in General Court in 1662. In 1664 he was a representative of nearby Northampton. His wife Felix died at Hadley, Massachusetts on 7 April 1671. Sometime shortly thereafter he returned to Farmington (Hartford), Connecticut where he was a member of the church in 1679/80. He died at Farmington on 2 August 1683.
(B) Capt. William 2 Lewis, son of William 1 and Felix (Collyns) Lewis was born circa 1622/23 in England and came to America with his parents in 1632. In 1644 he married Mary Whitehead(Hopkins) of Stratford, Connecticut. Capt. William Lewis married second Mary Cheever of New Haven, Connecticut. They had six children. William was Captain of the First Register of Farmington (Militia). Capt. William Lewis died at Farmington, Connecticut on 18 August 1690.<
