~Fancy Invitation Papers~
These are heavy parchment-like sheets made by recycling paper (as seen on TV). Sort of like making a
papier mache. They were intended as greeting cards or
invitations.
The project called for:
- wrapping paper (or used paper)
- food coloring
- Elmer's glue
- water
- a rolling pin
- a cookie sheet (several)
- a squeegie (or ice scraper)
- a blender
- scissors
- assorted rubber stamps
or cookie cutters
- water colors or colored ink
- stationary envelopes
Instructions:
- Shred paper as finely as possible, wet completely. If
using newspaper or a paper with ink that runs, soak it
first to leach the color.
- Put paper and equal parts glue and water in the blender.
Blend at low speed. (Add food color to stain the mix.)
- Pour onto cookie sheet, roll out as thin as possible.
Squeegie out excess water with care.
- Allow to set until dry.
- Trim and fold to fit envelopes (you may want to leave
one edge of the front page raw for decoration).
- Use assorted rubber stamps or trace cookie cutters.
Paint and color as fancy serves. Then write your message
on the inside (or pre-print your message on fancy paper
and use a glue stick to tack it to the side of the card).
