Relationships This section speaks of the people most important (in bad and good ways) to Dilandau...along with my personal opinions ^_^ Van Van Fanel. Dilandau's greatest enemy. I like Van. I like Van a lot. He's my second favourite character in Tenkuu no Escaflowne. Even if he did make my favourite character totally miserable, I can't help but like him (though at points in the series I do get in a strop with him). Van's hate for Dilandau-sama started earlier than Dilandau's hate for Van. Well, that is unless you include the fact that Dilandau hates pretty much everyone. But anyway, back to the point. Van started to hate Dilandau on about episode 3 (I think) when Dilandau was talking to Allen and Van realised that it was partly Dilandau's fault Fanelia had been burnt down. Anyway, Dilandau's hatred for Van started episode 5. Van had been kidnapped by Zaibach and he escaped thanks to Allen. Anyway, Hitomi had got her way onto the Vione because she saw a vision of Dilandau killing Van, and she needed to warn him. So, she ran about for a while, and finally, she saw Van. And behind him was smoke, and she could see a shadow behind the smoke unsheathing a sword. And then Dilandau came out and gave this really creepy evil smile, and attacked Van. Hitomi shouted at Van, and he swung round just in time, and blocked the attack. Oh, and a quick side note: At this point you can really see the height difference between Dilandau-sama and Van. Dilandau has to be more than 10cm taller than Van...Eh hem, anyway, they fight a bit, and then Van swings his sword upwards and slice...there goes a few strands of Dilandau's hair....and he has a huge slice up his right cheek. Dilandau clutches it, and crumples to the ground on his knees, and Van and Hitomi run for it. And from then on, Dilandau hates Van. Of course, Dilandau-kun does get more reasons to hate Van later on in the series. I think that nasty scar on his cheek is just a painful reminder of these. Van does kill the only people Dilandau ever cared about, and Van does make Dilandau's life utterly miserable, with the only thing keeping him going that he will some day kill Van. But, to be quite honest, if Van hadn't given Dilandau that scar, Dilandau wouldn't be the same. I watch the episodes up to 5, and think how normal Dilandau is. And then comes 6+, and he's an utter loony! And the devider between the two is that scar. The scar knocked Dilandau off the edge, and made him the interesting and completely original and special character I adore. So I suppose I'm glad Van's around. He made Dilandau who he is, even if it wasn't intentional. ^.^ Oh, and as well as that, I like the scar ^-^ It gives his face character and makes him look more interesting. Folken Out of everyone in The Vision of Escaflowne, Folken is the only person Dilandau obeys...to a certain extent. If Folken tells him to return from fighting, Dilandau will, though grudgingly. Folken is Dilandau's 'better' -- his boss. I think out of everyone in Escaflowne, Folken would be the only one Dilandau would never raise his hand too. And it's not a surprise. That metal arm has some nasty tricks up its sleeve (bad pun intended). However, of course, Dilandau-sama does disobey on some occasions. Phew, and there's me thinking he was totally sane round Folken! In the film, I've heard Dilandau and Folken's attitude towards each other is slightly different. I'm only using the information that I've heard because I've never actually seen the movie. However, I know for a fact movie-Folken is a much much nastier, vicious person in the film. I also understand that in the film, using telecanetic powers, he lifts Dilandau off the ground, and breaks his fingers. Thus I conclude, movie-Folken is an utter bastard. In the series, both characters seem to have a healthy respect for one another. In the movie, I am not so sure. Dragonslayers The Dragonslayers are 15 boys, all the same age as Dilandau, and they all work under his command. However, there are only 6 named Dragonslayers -- and those are Chesta, Migel, Dalet, Gatti, Guimel and Viole (also known as Biore). My favourite is Chesta, with Migel close behind -- but that's off-topic. So, what is Dilandau's relationship with the Dragonslayers? Well, he's their captain, and they are very very loyal to him. Dilandau doesn't treat the Dragonslayers very well. When he's annoyed with them, or when he's in a bad mood, he will hit them hard across the face. I can relate. However, they still follow him loyally. It's sweet. They will do anything to protect him, including, sacrifice their lives ;.; All the Dragonslayers (minus Migel who's dead) fight Van alongside Dilandau-sama in episode 14. And, Van kills the lot of them. And then, he turns, and heads for Dilandau. Of course, Dilandau is very disturbed by what he has just seen; his Dragonslayers just cut up before his eyes and not so much as a scratch upon Van, and so is a 'bit' shaky. And then, as Van is charging him down, the ghosts of the dead Dragonslayers appear in front of him and protect Dilandau-sama. They even care about him still during death. Awww. And, despite the fact he beats them up a lot, Dilandau does care for his Dragonslayers. He shows this specifically on two occasions. 01 / When Migel is killed by Zongi. Zongi returns to Dilandau, and Dilandau is there to 'greet' him. Zongi reports about Hitomi's powers, and Dilandau says 'Well done, Zongi'. Zongi says thank you for the comment, and Dilandau gets inside the Alseides and says 'Receive you reward'. and wraps Zongi in one of the liquid metal claws. Zongi panics, and Dilandau says 'You killed Migel, didn't you?'. Zongi shouts that it was his duty, but Dilandau ignores his pleas and says 'Think of what you did to my man. That is why I hate doppelgangers' And he kills Zongi, avenging Migel's death. 02 / After the Dragonslayers died, and Dilandau is back on the Vione, he is seen leaning over the edge of the floating fortress. He says: "They were all incompetents. Guimel, Dalet, Chesta, Gatti, Viole... You won't be recognized if you die in battle like that." And then, he drops a rose over the edge of the Vione, and it's sweet. I really liked this point in the episode, in the series for that matter. Other points are when Dilandau is frightened (at the end of the series). For example, when he is strapped to that slab because of those [insert word] sorcerors are experimenting on him, he will shout for the Dragnslayers...but they're dead. And when he comes back from his prolonged absence from the series, Jajuka tells him they're dead when he asks for them, and he gets all upset again. It's like his brain isn't dealing with the fact that they're dead...it's sad ;.; Jajuka Jajuka! The doggy-man! I like Jajuka. Jajuka was Dilandau's guardian whilst he was still Celena and in the possesion of Zaibach. He cared for her, and they were good friends, until, the sorcerors took hold of her. After she was turned into Dilandau, Jajuka was forgotton about because Dilandau couldn't remember anything about being female. Then, 10 years later during the Escaflowne series, Dilandau began having flashbacks of a little girl. This was triggured when his Dragonslayers were all slaughtered before his very eyes by Van. And then, he got ill, and was out of the series for a few episodes. Anyway, the first glimpse we get of Jajuka is in the garden with a girl telling her not to eat a snail. I think you probably know who the girl is ;) The next episode, Dilandau returns. He awakens in a dark room, and wonders where he is. There's a voice that tells him he's in the the floating fortress Dilate. It is the doggy man from the previous episode! Dilandau asks where Chesta...Gatti...Dallet...Violle are, and Jajuka repiles they are all dead. Dilandau gets upset and mad, and throws the wine that is conveniantly placed next to him all over Jajuka. Jajuka doesn't flinch. Then, after Dilandau has thrown the wine all over him, he asks who Jajuka is. Jajuka replies 'Jajuka'. Dilandau doesn't recognise the name, and Jajuka says he is the the only soldier under under Dilandau's command, and Dilly gets the most adorable look on his face for a moment, and then he screams and holds onto his head, and tears his shirt off, and then collapses to the ground and shivers, breathing heavily. Then, he restores his composure, and asks Jajuka if his new guymelef is ready. Jajuka says it is, and Dilandau gets up, slings his uniform jacket back on and quickly mentions that 'It's been a while since I've fought. I'm looking forward to it." Later, Dilandau is on the battle field. He fights with Van, but then Allen comes along and spoils it all, so Dilandau fights him. Then, Jajuka comes down and starts fighting Allen in his guymelef, and it turns out he's a good fighter. Dilandau just shoots off after Van again. Dilandau and Van are fighting again when suddenly things begin acting strange. The Escaflowne's energist starts glowing, Dornkirk' s big globey thing starts glowing and acting dodgy too, and then Dilandau starts having images of a frightened little girl. He backs up from Van, and his guymelef hits the floor on its knees and shakes. Van, seeing this as a good chance, attacks Dilandau from behind, but Jajuka manages to get in the way. Dilandau isn't in the best of conditions, and his hair is turning from silver, to blondish, back to silver, to blondish, and his eyes are going from red to blue to red to blue, and his scar keeps disappearing, then reappearing. Suddenly, one of the ever-present columns of lights makes a debut, and sucks Dilandau away. Jajuka shouts after him, and shoots away from the battle ground after his friend. Next episode Celena turns up after 10 years at Allen's house and he takes her to his mother's grave. Not interested, she becomes intent on a butterfly, and ends up squishing it. Then, she begins to scream and clutch her sides, and she reverts to Dilandau -- much to Allen's and Princess Aries' astonishment. Dilandau shouts for Jajuka, and the dog-man's guymelef appears behind the graves. Insert an extremely cute Dilandau face here. Dilandau's happy, and before Allen can talk to him about the Celena thing, Jajuka picks him up and flies off. Next episode there's a brief bit with Dilandau and Jajuka. Dilandau is on a chair looking dazed, when Jajuka comes in and tells Dilandau he is needed to fight at Galfe with the 32nd brigade -- whatever that might be. Dilandau moves from his chair, and is enthusiastic about getting to go to a really good, important battle like this one. Next episode. The last episode in the series. Dilandau and Van are fighting on the same battlefield, and then they notice one another... Jajuka is shown. He has a flashback of when he first met Celena. He is shown talking to a sorceror who is telling him not to speak of their experiments, and that he has a new child for Jajuka to look after. The child is Celena. She's crying and asking to be taken back home. Jajuka comes in and tells her to eat, and that if she dies, he'll be in trouble. She looks at him, and he mentions they cut her hair. The flashback ends, and Jajuka shouts 'I must find him quickly!" Dilandau and Van are fighting again, and Van has the upper hand. Dilandau has had both the Oreades' arms sliced off, and they were the weapons of the guymelef. Also, the guymelef has had a leg cut off, so he can't do the thing I would do and run awaaay! So, Dilandau faces certain death ;.; But then, as Van is just about to kill him, Jajuka leaps in the way, and gets hit himself. Jajuka tells Dilandau to escape. Insert another flashback of Celena and Jajuka in a pretty field of flowers. Then, Jajuka starts shouting at Jajuka to 'turn back into that gentle Celena!'. And then, Jajuka's guymelef ignites, and the doggy-man is burned alive ;.; And Dilandau is understandable upset. And we all know what happens when Dilandau's emotions have a go. He begins having flashbacks of Celena, which he does at this point, and then, he changes back to Celena. But this section is about Jajuka, so I'll stop. I really liked Jajuka. I liked all the beast-men and women. Send I've got a soft spot for the afghan. And it irritates me a lot when Van kills him too. Like it's not enough that he kills all the Dragonslayers. When Van kills Jajuka, Dilandau looses the last person he ever cared about. And so I feel really sorry for him (again) at this point. Sniff. Poor Dilandau-sama. Celena Celena, or, Serena as others prefer to call her, is Dilandau's 'other half' if you like. When she was about five-years-old, Celena was taken from her family which composed of her brother Allen Schezar, and her mother, (their father had left a bit before), to Zaibach. Around this time, Lord Dornkirk and his sorcerors -- the scientists of Zaibach -- were performing 'fate alteration experiments'. They would often take kidnapped children, and perform the experiments on them. The only one known to have survived was Celena (though I personally have always wondered about the Dragonslayers). Whilst in the possesion of Zaibach, Celena met a kindly beast-man named Jajuka, who cared for her, until the fateful day (pun not intended) when Celena was given to the sorcerors to perform their experiments on her. Despite the dog-man's valient attempts, he could not save Celena, and the experiments were performed on her, and she was changed into Dilandau ^-^ Later in the series, after Van has killed Dilandau's Dragonslayers, Dilandau becomes extremely distressed and ill at their death. He is dragged to the sorcerors of Zaibach, and they mention something about the fate alteration test was not completely successful, and then stick nasty needles into the poor guy (wince). Dilandau is then gone for the next few episodes. Then, a few episodes later, Adelfos is looking out over a garden, and we see a sort of blondish-silverish haired girl in the garden. She is about 15 years old, and, umm...trying to eat a snail. Then, we see a big doggy man come to her, take her hands, and shake his head at her, presumably telling her not to eat the snail. We all know who she is now, don't we? Next ep', Dilandau returns, and there is much rejoicing (amoung fans, not actual characters). Later on in the series, Dilandau is fighting Van, when he suddenly begins to shake and whimpering ;.; Van sees this is as an oppurtunity to get rid of Dilandau, and tries to kill him *sulks*. However, Jajuka jumps in (yay!) and stops him killing the poor guy. Dilandau is still being strange, and for a moment, his hair turns blondish, his eyes blue, and his scar fades. Then, one of the ever-present pillars of light appears, and sucks him away. Next episode, we see the pillar of light land some distance away, and the Oreades lands. A girl dressed in leather trousers and a blue shirt comes out and walks away looking sort of dazed. Later we see Allen sitting in a house talking to his dead dad > @.@ And then his owl hears something and looks at the door. Allen looks too, and there is Celena. She smiles as she recognises him. Allen takes Celena to his mother's grave, along with Princess Aries. Him and Aries are talking, and Celena is looking at her mother's grave, and then seems to take more interest in the butterfly. and watches it. Suddenly, she gets a very familier and very creepy smile, and swipes the butterfly from middair. And, she opens her hand, and all the crumbly pieces of butterfly fly out of her hand. Umm...yeah...destruction...familier... Suddenly, her eyes widen, and she begins to scream and clutch her sides. Allen is sort of looking at her and asking her if she's okay, and she obviously is'not because she's crying and her body is changing shape slightly. And what has happened to the colour and length of her hair? Then, she stands up, and Allen says 'Celena', and s/he spins round and says 'Celena?' and it's no longer Celena -- it's Dilandau! With messy hair mightn't I add. Jajuka comes and takes Dilly away before Allen can have a word with him. Now, the last episode. Dilandau and Van are fighting again, and Van's sort of got the upper hand. i.e / he's cut both of the Oreades' arms making it totally weaponless ;.; *worried worried*. Dilandau is sort of frightened (wouldn't we all?) and then Jajuka rescues him...and gets himself killed in the process. However, before he dies, Jajuka shouts at Dilandau to turn back into Celena. And, he begins too. Then, it's Allen's turn to protect Dilandau, along with the (in)famous line 'Dilandau is my sister' *muffled giggling*. Him and Van fight -- Van wins against him....though Hitomi tells Van not to kill Allen. Then, Allen jumps out his guymelef and runs to Celena and hugs her. It shows them both a couple of times in the ending sequence, and that is the end of The Vision of Escaflowne. Sob. --- Many Dilandau-otaku hate Celena because she 'replaced' him in the series. I think differently. I think she's cool! And without her, there would be no Dilandau. I always think of Celena and Dilandau as two completely different people. I don't think of them as related, though they do have their similarities. I think of them both reflections of each other -- completely the oppisite. Celena is a girl, with blue eyes, gold hair and a loving personality who likes to pick flowers. Dilandau is a male, with red eyes, silver hair and a vicious blood-thirsty personality who likes to burn flowers (amoung other things, namely cities). I see them as an anchor for each other -- Celena couldn't be there without Dilandau, and visa versa, or they'd at least have trouble living. Dilandau is just as real as Celena, and what's more, unlike people like Folken and Jajuka who died in the series, he actually has a chance of coming back, because I think he's just lurking under the surface of Celena. And that would make a damn cool fanfic! <> Dilandau <> Fanstuff <> Site <> Sign <> Contact <> a.s.c.e.n.d |
