This is a Paint Shop Pro tutorial for PSP 7 by JascThis tutorial uses selections which you can download here SELECTIONS.
Unzip the selections into a folder where you can find them.
I used no outside filters in this tutorial.Let's begin by opening a new blank image 350 X 500 transparent.
You can flood the first layer with any color you like. Add a new layer.I like to put all my selections on their own layer. That way I can save the
PSP file and if I want to later, I can go back and change colors or even edit the
selections to get a different look without having to start all over again.I have numbered the selections in the order they should be used.
I will not be using many screen shots. The steps will be pretty much the same
all the way through.

These are the colors that I used. Please feel free to use your own choice of colors.Remember to SAVE your work often !!
You will load the selection ( Selections / Load from Disc ) on a separate layer (that's what I prefer to do ). Name your layers whatever the selection is named. flood fill with your
choice of color. Next you will invert the selection ( Selections / Invert ).
Then go to Effects / 3D Effects / Drop Shadow. You will use a darker shade of
the color you chose and apply a drop shadow using both + H and V and then again
using - H and V. Then Deselect and add another layer.
I used these settings on the smaller selections:V 1 H 1 Opacity 50 Blur 15
then again
V -1 H -1 Opacity 50 Blur 15You can play with those settings to get the look that you want.. this is what I used.
On the larger selections I increased the blur to about 30.After adding the sole of the shoe ( # 5 ) Effects / 3D / Inner Bevel
apply the round inner bevel. After adding the pants stripe ( # 9 ) deselect and add a drop shadow of:
V 1 H 1 Opacity 50 Blur 5After adding the sole on the front shoe ( # 11) add the same round inner bevel.
Select the back parts of the shoe by drawing an elipse around them with antialias
checked .. then click in the selection.![]()

Now invert and add a drop shadow of:
V + H 1 opacity 15 blur 8
Do this to both shoes.Hope you are remembering to SAVE !!
Flood fill the shoe stripes ( # 12 ) either black or a color that goes with your batter.
Then deselect and add a drop shadow -1 +1 Op 50 blur 0.After adding the shoe ties flood with either black or you could even use colored shoe
laces. You may have to enlarge the area to see better. I then applied the round bevel. After adding the bat ( # 15 ) flood with white, deselect and apply these bevel settings
w 15 s 67 d 11 a 0 shin 50 angle 303 int 50 ele 30
Then go to Effects / Artistic / Chrome:
flaws 1 brightness 100 box checked
On the bat end just apply the same bevel.Flood fill the neck, arm and hand with a flesh color and invert drop shadow a darker shade of brown. When finished with the hand... select again float and draw a few lines where
the fingers are for more definition.![]()
After adding the shirt's drop shadow at 30 blur. I deselected and added
noise a 3 uniform.
Add the same noise to the sleeve when finished. After adding the helmet padding ( # 25 ) flood with either dark gray or black.
Apply the round bevel.Use the same flesh color on the head and after the inverted drop shadows I added the same noise to this also.
After the hemlet ( # 27 ) is filled with color, deselect. Apply the following
bevel.![]()
After filling the helmet bill ( # 28 ), deselect and apply the same bevel.
Then apply a drop shadow of :
V +4 H +4 opacity 50 Blur 7.Turn off the helmet and bill layer. Click on the head and add another layer.
Now you can build your face, or use the one I supplied.
Now if you decide you want a girl with long hair add another layer
under the helmet and make or add your hair.If you want to add a number on the back of the shirt... click on the
shirt layer and add a new layer. With the text tool set on Vector and
antialias write your name or number. Position the text in the middle
of the back, converting to raster. then click on the shirt layer again and invert.
The click on the text layer and then hit the delete key. This will get rid of
any text that is not on the shirt. Now you can add a name or number onto the
helmet.
Almost finished ! Take your draw tool, color either black or gray, or your choice, and
click on the front pants layer and add a new layer. with the draw tool set at
2, draw some lines on the pants.![]()
Now add a gaussian blur of 2. Select the pants layer, float, invert... click on the
pants line layer and hit the delete. When finished, shift D and save your finished work in psp format if you like.
Then delete the colored base layer and merge visable. Now you can resize and
save as a tube.Hope that you enjoyed this tutorial !
