Candle,Holder
and Frame
Tutorial
Thank you FlyByNight Graphics
This is a from scratch tutorial. I made this in PSP 6.02, using
EyeCandy and
Blade Pro. I am sure you can make it though just using the
filters found
in PSP.
1. Open a new image 500X500 black.
2. Click on the Draw Object (the pencil) with foreground set
to white. Select the
Bezier Curve with these settings. Stroked, 8 width, antialias
checked, create as
vector checked.
3. Draw a line starting about 1/3 of the way down from the
top to about 1/4 from the bottom.
Keep your line straight.
4. Move your curser to the right of your line and about 2/3
from the top of the line and
then double click. You should have something like this.
Right click on the layer and
convert this to a raster layer.
5. Click on the selection tool and draw a rectangle around
your image then click on the line.
This will select your bezier curve. Copy and paste as a new
layer, then go to image MIRROR.
Then line up your lines like this:
I turned on the grid so I could get them even.
6. Now cick on the Draw tool again and select BEZIER again
with the same settings
as before. Draw a straight horizontal line under the curved
lines, keeping your
line straight.
Place your curser just above the open spaces on the curved line and
click twice.
You can use your mover tool to line it up if you need to.
This layer needs to be
on top of the curved lines.
7. Click on the Preshapes tool and select ECLIPSE using these
settings:
Stroked, Line Width 8, Antialias checked and Create as vector
checked.
Draw an eclipse on the top of the opening at the top of the two curved
lines to
close them. Convert this to a raster layer.
And again on the bottom under the curved horizontal line. Convert
this to a raster
layer and if you need to, drag this layer beneath the curved horizontal
line layer.
8. Turn off all the layers except the two cured lines and the
top eclipse. Merge Visible.
Select the Merged layers and add a gold blade pro preset, or whatever
you choose.
Then select the Horizontal Bezier line and add the same preset to
it. And then add the
preset to the base of the stand. It should look like this:
Now turn off the background layer and Merge Visible.
9. Now we need to cut the top eclipse on the frame in half,
so it will be in the back
behind the candle holder. Click on the Selections tool and
choose rectangle.
Then make your selection of the back half of the eclipse.
Then go to Edit, Cut, then Paste as a new layer. Use your Mover
Tool to line the two
sections back up together. Drag this layer below the Merged
layer.
10. Now we are going to make the glass candle holder.
Click on the Preshapes Tool and
Select the Eclipse at these settings. Eclipse, Filled, Antialias
Checked, Create as
Vector Checked.
Make an Eclipse in the Center of the top Opening, like this:
Click on the Icon Under the Preshapes tool and then right click on
your graphic and on the
box choose Node Edit. Holding down the Ctrl key, place nodes
on the lines so you can
manipulate the image.
After you get a design that you like, go to layers and convert to
raster. Now we will
pick the side that you don't like and go to Selections/Rectangle
and slice your image
down the middle. Go to Edit, Cut, Select NONE. Then
Select the half that is
remaining. Go to Edit, Copy, Paste as a new layer, and Mirror.
Use the Mover
Tool to line yourtwo halves up together. Then turn all the
layers off, except for
the two glass layers and Merge Visible. Use the Mover Tool
if you need to line
the glass up into the holder.
11. Now Select the Glass Layer and go to Selections/Modify/Contract
by 2 or 3, depending
on how thick you want your glass to look. Make a New Layer
and flood fill with the color of
your choice. This will be your Candle.
Then With the Selection Tool set on Eclipse with Antialias checked,
Cut a
section off the top of the Candle, by going to Edit/Cut. It
should look like this:
12. Select the Candle and drag it under the glass, if it is
not already there. I then went to
Image/Effects/Cutout and used these Settings:
Next I added an EyeCandy Inner Bevel with these settings:
It should now look like this:
13. Now Click on the glass layer. Take your Selection
Tool set at Eclipse and cut off
a slightly rounded edge to form the lip of the glass. Then
Add another Layer and using
either white or light gray flood fill the Eclipse. Move this
layer under the glass layer.
Now with the glass selected I went to EyeCandy and applied the Glass
at these settings:
Feel free to choose your own settings to your own taste.
I used the same settings for the Eclipse, lip part of the glass.
Now Slide the Bar on
the layer pallette to suite your taste as far as Opacity for your
glass, for both layers.
14. Now for a wick and flame. Add a new layer and add
a wick using the bezier curve
and slightly curve the wick. Move this layer under the candle
layer. Then add a new
layer for your flame. I used the Presetshapes/Eclipse and
slightly did some Node Editing
on it to bend the flame a bit. Then I flood filled using the Starburst
gradient using the
forground set at yellow and background on bright orange. Then I added
the soeclear preset
on the flame. Make sure the flame is under the glass
but in front of the glass lip.
When you are Satisfied with your creation, delete the black layer
and Merge Visible.
It can now be saved as a tube, if you want. You can decorate
the candle holder with
flowers or pearls or anything else you would like to make it fancier looking.
Hope you had fun with
this one. If you have any questions, feel free to
email me.
