SOAPnet RETURNS PORT CHARLES TO TELEVISION
SOAPnet returns former ABC Daytime soap Port Charles to television on Monday, December 29th. The series will air two back-to-back episodes weekdays from 12 – 1 p.m. ET/PT beginning with "Fate" which originally aired in December 2000. "Fate" was the series' first foray into Telenovella storytelling, structured in 12-week story arcs featuring soul mates, star-crossed lovers, and forbidden attractions.
"We're proud to add Port Charles to our stable of classic soaps such as Ryan's Hope and Another World, which have a strong, loyal base of fans," said Deborah Blackwell, General Manager SOAPnet. "These classics complement our same-day soaps and original series and specials."
Port Charles premiered in 1997 as a spin-off from the award-winning soap General Hospital. Its last episode aired on ABC October 3, 2003. The show featured three of General Hospital's most popular characters, Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring), Kevin Collins (Jon Robert Lindstrom), and Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner), as well as new fan favorites Erin Hershey Presley, Brian Presley, Kiko Ellsworth and Kelly Monaco. The show adopted its unique storytelling format in December 2000, where every twelve weeks was titled as a book with individual chapters and story lines and, unlike traditional soaps, a beginning, middle, and end. Port Charles was executive produced by Julie Carruthers who currently serves as executive producer of ABC Daytime's All My Children.
SOAPnet, the new way to watch soaps, offers same day episodes of popular daytime dramas including All My Children, One Life To Live and General Hospital at night for convenient viewing. In addition, the network provides inside access to stars and storylines with original programs including the Emmy-nominated one-hour talk show, Soap Talk and the entertainment magazine show Soap Center. Wrapped in a 24-hour soapy environment, SOAPnet also offers primetime classics including Dynasty, Dallas, and Knots Landing as well as the former series Another World and Ryan's Hope. Brian turns Bold and Beautiful
Beginning on September 11, 2003, Brian Gaskill (Rafe) will be gracing the screens of The Bold and the Beautiful.
According to Gaskill, the decision not to go to All My Children was very hard, but in the end he didn't want to change coasts. (AMC films in NYC, while B&B films in LA like PC did.) In the storyline, Brian will play a new character, rough-around-the-edges, with ties to the world of Las Vegas gambling and related to shipping magnate Massimo Marone.
2 of Erin and Brian's co-stars get ABC gigs
Michael Easton (Caleb) has nailed a role on One Life to Live, and beginning on October 1st, 2003, he will play John McBain, a private investigator.
According to SOW, the character will be involved with Natalie and Cristian. Easton, who started his daytime career on Days of Our Lives, won over a legion of devoted fans when he joined PC in 2001 as vengeful vampire Caleb. Although the character was only set to last through one book, Easton infused a human element to his immortal counterpart, and became a popular permanent fixture.
Those Port Charles kids are hot! Kelly Monaco (Livvie) has landed her next soap gig; she's joining the cast of General Hospital, a spokesperson confirms. Few details have been released about Monaco's character-to-be, but the rep asserts that she will "not be playing Livvie." Monaco is the third cast member to land another daytime role since PC's cancellation. Livvie's onscreen love Michael Easton (Caleb) has signed with OLTL, while co-star Brian Gaskill has been hired by The Bold and the Beautiful (see related story above.)
No word on Erin yet
