Medvedev has not played well this year as his ranking has slipped to 100. He fell in the opening round of the French Open and the second round of the Australian Open. His grass court form was alright, however his draw was unfortunate as he lost to tournament champions Kafelnikov 1-6 7-5 7-5 (Halle), Rafter 7-6 4-6 7-6 (Rosmalen). He fell to finalist Ivanisevic, in 4 sets at Wimbledon. He fell in the second round at the US Open.
1997Medvedev reached the round of 16 of the French Open where he lost a tough 5 set match to Kuerton, the eventual champion. In Hamburg he won the title in where he belted Mantilla 6-0 6-4 6-2. Medvedev defeated Stich (15) on his way to the round of 16 at the Australian Open. He fell to Chang in 4 sets.
Medvedev reached the Quarter finals of the US Open
Medvedev reached the Quarter finals of the Australian Open, which he lost in 3 long sets to Chang. Medvedev lost a spiteful round of 16 match to Becker at Wimbledon. Becker took illegal coaching during the match to win it. Medvedev played so well that he nearly beat the 3 time grass champion.
Medvedev reached the Quarter finals of the French Open.
Medvedev reached the Semi finals of the French Open, where he defeated Edberg after taking the 1st set 6-0. Medvedev reached the Quarter finals of the US Open.
Medvedev first came onto the scene as a 17 year old as he played a terrific match against Courier.
Medvedev won the Junior French Open, where he beat young Enqvist, the winner of the Junior Australian and Wimbledon titles, in the final
