Alex Corretja produces his groundstrokes with extreme topspin. He can also slice his backhand. His major weakness is his net game as he does not move from the baseline to the volley position well. His volleys when he is up there are solid. His patience helps him on clay to set up points. He can track down powerful shots on clay. His second serve is a weakness as it can be attacked easily.

He also fell to Moya it the round of 16 at the US Open. Corretja beat Agassi in three sets to win the event in Indianapolis. He reached the final of Hamburg.
