Dominique van Roost has very flat and hard groundstrokes. She tries to belt the ball as hard as she can. Since 1997, the ball started to go in regularly for Dominique. Her volley and serve are steady shots. Her weakness is her consistency, as she often doesn't continue with her great shots throughout a match.
van Roost recently had her biggest win in Flinderstadt defeating Hingis 6-3 6-7 6-3 to make Hingis No 1 ranking. Dominique van Roost won the Auckland tournament to start the year. Dominique made the final of Hobart and the third round of the Australian Open. She also made the final of the Paris Indoor. She has already had a terrific year. She beat Testud in the opening round of the Fed Cup. Dominique van Roost reached the 3rd round of the French Open. She reached the round of 16 at Wimbledon pushing Sanchez Vicario to 3 sets. She fell in the third round of the US Open.
van Roost won the title in Hobart and reached the Quarter finals at the Australian Open. She beat second seed Sanchez Vicario 8-6 in the 3rd set, after trailing 2-5. She also beat Rubin in gutsy wins in which she battled wrist, back and stomach injuries. She lost to Fernandez 7-5 4-0 (ret) where she was in pain for the last 5 games of the match.
