Gigi Fernandez and Natasha Zvereva won the French Open and Wimbledon without conceding a set. They also reached the final of the US Open. Fernandez announced her retirement at the end of the tournanment. Gigi Fernandez partnered Arantxa Sanchez Vicario to reach the Semi Finals of the Australian Open losing to Natasha Zvereva and Hingis. Fernandez took a set of Pierce at Hilton Head, showing she still could play with the top singles players when she wanted.
Gigi and Mary Joe Fernandez defended their gold medal at the Olympic Games final. They are the only tennis duo to do this. Fernandez and Zvereva won the US Open, the tournament which has stopped them from winning the Grand Slam two years in a row, 1993 and 1994. They reached the final of the French Open, semi final of Wimbledon and the quarter final of the Australian Open.

Fernandez teamed with Novotna to win the French, US and Wimbledon Opens.
In 1990 Fernandez won the US Open with Navratilova.
