Stich has the best service action as it is technically the best. It is an easy action with a terrific follow through. His backhand is also a terrific stroke. The forehand was a weakness, however he improved it to reach the final of the French Open in 1996. His volleys are also very good.
Stich reached the Semi final of Wimbledon in which he played vintage tennis for 3 sets, in a 6-7 6-2 6-1 5-7 6-4 loss to Pioline. Stich loses in the Australian Open to Medvedev 4-6 6-2 6-1 4-6 9-7. Stich decides to retire after the US Open in which he loses in the second round.
Stich beat Muster and Rosset on clay at the French Open to make his third slam final. Kafelnikov won the tight final 7-6 7-5 7-6.
Stich reached the semi finals of the third Australian Open.
Stich reached the Quarter finals at Wimbledon and at the US Open.
Stich won Wimbledon beating the Volkov, Edberg and Becker on the way to his first Grand Slam title.
