National Football League

Brisbane Broncos 38 defeated Canterbury Bulldogs 12 in the Grand Final.

In the past 10 years, these two teams have 6 premierships between them. Brisbane Broncos were the hot favourites going into the final, especially after the dominating wins in the past two weeks.

Canterbury needed to win Sudden death matches for the past 8 games and have upset many teams in the process. They went into the final as underdogs, have trailed in every game of the final series.

Final results Week 4

9-Canterbury Bulldogs defeated Parramatta Eels 32-20.

Parramatta dominated the game to lead 12-2 at the half time break thanks to ex-bulldogs McCracken, Dymock, Pay and Jason Smith. The second half Canterbury's Hetherington crossed the line only for the ball to be stripped from cover tackles, however the ref did not give the peanality and the Eels scored on the next play to lead 18-2. Simon's attempts at field goal narrowly missed and it seamed that Parramatta switched off with 10 minutes to go. Polla-Mounta lead Canterbury back in the game when the Bulldogs scored an amazing 3 tries. Halligon kicked a goal from the touch line to level the game at 18-all. In extra time Polla-mounta kicked 2 field goals in and scored a try and Canterbury scored a late try for a sensational comeback.

1-Brisbane Broncos defeated Sydney City Roosters 46-18

Brisbane played awsomely to lead 14-0 in 10 minutes. They lead 18-6 at half time. Darren Lockyer proved to be the most exciting player by setting up many of the tries, along with Langer. Their finals experience showed as they scored point after point. Fitler who was the major ball player for the Rooster in previous weeks was contained well by the defence. Every team which had a bye the previos round as lost in this years finals series.

Final results Week 3

Sydney City Roosters and Parramatta Eels have bye.

9-Canterbury Bulldogs defeated 2-Newcastle Knights 28-16

Newcastle stared the game in a postively by scoring the first 16 points, and lead by 10 at half time. The Knights who had all the momentum in the first half, and their lack of fitness and players allowed the doggies to fight back to reach 16 points each. The final ten minutes Canterbury had many chances to score yet the teams were locked even at full time. In the extra time period Rod Silva came into his own, and my team scored two tries to record an upset win over the hapless Knights. Note the Knights blew a 15-0 lead last week and a 16-0 this week.

1-Brisbane defeated 3-Melbourne Storm 30-6

Brisbane dominated the game from the start scoring the first try. They continued to play well, destoying the Storm. Alfie Langer played another strong game for the Broncos as did Kevin Walers and Gordon Tallis. Their defence was also an outstanding feature, containg the Storm to one try only.

Final results Week 2

4-Parramatta defeated 1-Brisbane 15-10

The Eels continued their great form by leading 6-4 at half time over the competion favourites. Although the Broncos scored again in second half, the final field goal from Simon gave them a tough away-from-home victory.

6-Sydney City defeated 2-Newcastle 26-15

The Knights, lead by the Chief and the Johns brothers, blitzed the Roosters by leading 15-0 in the first half. The Roosters recoverd brilliantly to score 26 points in a row in the second half, Fittler again contolling the game.

3-Melbourne eliminated 7-Canberra 24-10

The Storm avenged last weeks loss with a dominant first half. Their tough defence from forwards Lazurus and Nikau was great. The Raiders were simply outgunned and scored a late consolation try at the end of the match

9-Canterbury eliminated 5-Norths 23-2

The Bears reputation for choking in the finals was confirmed lost the last 23 points of the game. The Bulldogs kicked their arse three tries to zero. Polla Mounta and Hetherington are excellent playes for the Bulldogs.

The Roosters had scored the first 8 points and the Storm came back to lead 12-8 at half time. The Roosters, lead by Fittler came out fireing in the second half scoring 18 points to nothing.

The Bears played well in the first half to score the first 12 points, finishing 12-6 at half time. The Eels tough defence rattled their opponent allowing them to 16 points to zero in the second term.

7-Canberra eliminated 10-Manly 17-4

Raiders started poorly, but recovered to lead 10-4 in the first half. Raiders confirmed the victory by scoring 7 points to nil in the second stanza. The Sea Eagles proved they were lucky to be in the finals with such an easy loss.

9-Canterbury eliminated 8-St George 20-12

The Dragons started positively scoring the first two tries. The Bulldogs recovered to lead 14-12 in the first half. The second half was just as tough, and the Bulldogs scored one more try with a few minutes remaining.

Canterbury is the greatest team in the game. They have won 4 premierships in the 1980's and have won 7 in total. Darren Brit, is the current Captain of the team. They finished in 2nd spot, which is pretty good after been placed 12th with 2 weeks to the finals.

Manly are suck ups of the competition. The management is supports Manly for a number of reasons. Former Australian Coach, Bob Fulton, also coaches Manly. They bombed out easily in the final series.
