Stefan Edberg has the best volleys in the world. He can go through tournaments without missing a single volley. His serve has a lot of kick, which goes very high before the returner hits the ball. This allows Edberg to get a good net position for the volley. His backhand is strong which allows him to get to the net during rallies. From 1985 to 1995 he was a very tough player as he was very hard to pass.
Edberg made his decision to retire at the beginning of the year. Along with Korda, he won the doubles slam at the Australian Open. He beat Chang on clay at the French Open. The win was bitter sweet, because he had lost to Chang in the '89 final in 5 sets. The French was the only slam he did not win. His US Open performance was impressive beating Krajicek, the reigning Wimbledon Champion, 6-3 6-3 6-3. He helped Sweden to the final of the Davis Cup.

In 1993, Edberg reached the final of the Australian Open, losing a rematch to Courier in 4 sets. He lost in the Semifinals of Wimbledon and the Quarter finals of the French Open. He lost in the second round at the US Open.
In 1992, Edberg successfully defends his US Open. He defeats Sampras, Chang and Krajicek to take the title. The Semi final against Chang lasted over 5 hours, in which Edberg won in 5 sets.
Edberg trounced Courier 6-2 6-4 6-0 in the final of the US Open.
