Enqvist lost a close match to Hennman 3-6 7-5 6-4 in Sydney, where there were a lot of bad calls favouring Henman. Rios beat him at the Australian Open for the second consecutive year in a rain interrupted match. Enqvist won the Munich Open beating Agassi 6-7 7-6 6-3. At the French Open he upset former champion, Kafelnikov in 4 sets. He had to pull out of the US Open again.
Enqvist lost to Rios in 5 sets at the Australian Open. Enqvist won the title in Marseille. He was plagued with injury throughout the year, missing the French and Wimbledon and pulling out of the US Open. He was part of the winning Davis Cup team. He finished the year ranked as low as 27.
Enqvist reached the Quarter finals of the Australian Open, his only one, where he lost to Woodforde. Reneberg beat him in the opening round at the French. He fell to Washington, who went on to make the final. He was in top form at the US Open where he lost to Muster 7-6 6-2 4-6 6-1 after leading the 1st set 5-2.
Enqvist won five tournaments for the year, beating Ivanisavic 4 times. He finished the year ranked 6.
Enqvist beat 8th seeded Korda at the Australian Open.
In 1993, Enqvist was first noticed when he created a huge upset in beating Agassi in the opening round of the US Open
Enqvist won the Junior Australian and Wimbledon Open. He also reached the final of the Junior French losing to Medvedev.
