ROLE PLAYING PROPER:
(Lights out.)
Narrator: blah- blah- blah- blah- blah-
SCENE I (Lambingan Scene)
(A problematic Ernesto is shown sitting Outside1. Betina, being a former soon-to-be-nun, will approach out of compassion because she would like to help, although she is obviously a prostitute. Ernesto, disregarding her being a whore, will fall for her and so will Betina. Before proceeding to Scene II, they will be shown hugging each other in a very solemn and intimate moment.)
SCENE II (Silhouette Scene)
(The silhouette will be raised up, hiding the two lovers. Bench removed, Silhouette lights on, stage lights out, showing the two hugging while standing. Then, a seductive song will be played while executing a hidden love scene. Lights out.)
SCENE III (Hiwalayan Scene 1)
(Betina will be shown selling. Ernesto will come in.)
Ernesto: Betina! (Attempt to hug Betina)
Betina: (Turning her back to him, facing the audience) Why are you here? What do you need?
Ernesto: Betina, I came back for you, my love!
Betina: Nonsense! (Facing Ernesto) You came back for nothing! Just when I thought I found the man I can depend on, you left me! And during one of the most difficult part of my life! You left me!
Ernesto: I didn't leave you, Betina. It's just that I-I-I was overwhelmed about what I felt and wanted to decide my next move. I never took you for granted, Bet…
Betina: Shut up! I don't want to hear any more foolishness! Get out of this house! Go back to your wife! Or else, I will call the police! Go away!
Ernesto: I will leave for now, but I will be back. I know you still love me.
Betina: Go away!
(Ernesto will exit. Lights out.)
SCENE IV (Hiwalayan Scene 2)
Narrator: And for twelve years, Ernesto and Betina lived their separate lives. Ernesto continued his relationship with his wife while Betina raised her child on her own. Ernesto, however, is still experiencing his problems with his wife until one day…
(Lights on, Ernesto holding a phone chatting with his boss in Lucresia's house.)
Lucresia: (Enter after the phone conversation) And who's that, Ernesto?
Ernesto: Just my, boss. He called me up for a lunch meeting.
Lucresia: Your boss? Or is it your mistress who called you up for lunch?
Ernesto: What are you thinking? It IS my boss and not any woman!
Lucresia, don't start. I'm warning you, don't start.
Lucresia: Don't start? What do you want me to do? Sit down here and watch you flirt with other women?
Ernesto: I told you don't start!
Lucresia: Shut up! You're always like that whenever I'm talking about your faults and irresponsibility! You think you're gonna get away with it? I did everything to keep you happy and what are you giving me back?
Ernesto: (Can't stand no more) Keep me happy? You're keeping me happy? Yes, by giving me problems, problems, and more problems!
Lucresia: (Begins to cry pretentiously) I should not have married you!
Ernesto: Don't give me that bullshit! "I" should not have married you! I didn't love you in the first place! I married you because of our parents and nothing more! (Pause, Lucresia still crying, then calmly) I can't take this any more, Lucresia. I had enough. I want our marriage to be annulled as soon as possible. I will be looking for Betina, (shouting) the woman I truly loved who left me because of you, stupid bitch!
(Leave Lucresia crying)
(Lucresia will sit on the sofa crying until lights out.)
Narrator: And this is…OPEN EMULATE.
SCENE V (Spanking Scene)
(Boknoy and Twinkle will enter running inside Betina's house playing.)
Boknoy: (Looking outside) Twinkle, your mother is coming!
Twinkle: Oh no! I promised to go home early! Let me hide, Boknoy!
(Twinkle will hide on the sofa and will accidentally leave her slipper on-the floor)
Boknoy: Just stay there, Twinkle, OK! Just stay there! She's bringing a belt!
Twinkle: Please, don't let mama know that I'm here! OK!
(Lupe will enter with a belt)
Lupe: It's you Boknoy! Have you seen Twinkle?
Boknoy: (Lying) She's not here Aunt Lupe! Believe me! She's not here!
Lupe: Are you sure Boknoy? Are you sure?
Boknoy: (Proud) Yes, I am! I'm very very sure!
Lupe: (Picked the slipper on the floor) And who's the owner of this slipper?
Boknoy: (Afraid) Ah…ah…my mother! Yes, my mother is the owner of that slipper!
Lupe: Your mother? So, why is it that the size of this slipper is so small? Besides your mother is not around! Is she? (Caressing the belt) Come on Boknoy, where is she? Come on, can't you see this stick? It's ready to hit a child like you!
Boknoy: (Afraid he will point his hand to the sofa) There she is Aunt Lupe! There she is!
Twinkle: (Surprised) Oh no! Why Boknoy? Why?
Lupe: (Seeing Twinkle on the sofa) There you are! I've been looking for you awhile ago! At a count of twelve and you did not get out of there, I will spank you! One! Two! Three! (Twinkle will get out of the sofa and Lupe will pinch her child) Where have you been? You said that you will just go outside, and what did you do? You didn't come back anymore!
Boknoy: (Begging and lonely) I'm sorry Twinkle! I'm very sorry! I had to say where you are but your Mom! Yes your mother Twinkle! She will beat me if I won't tell where you are!
Twinkle: I understand Boknoy! I understand! Don't be bothered! I can handle this!
Boknoy: Good luck, Twinkle! Good luck! Remember that God is always with us!
Lupe: And what are you thinking of me Boknoy? The devil?
Boknoy: Not so Aunt Lupe! But you're Casper, yes Casper - the friendly ghost! Hahaha!
(Exit running.)
Lupe: Look at your cousin, Twinkle! Look at him! He's like you now! Boknoy as naughty as Twinkle! (Pause for awhile) You know what child?
Twinkle: (Curious) I don't know mom!
Lupe: Of course, I haven't told you already! (Pause for a while and she will pinch her child) Twinkle, you're so naughty! No, I'm mistaken. Your not just naughty, your very, very naughty!
Twinkle: But Mom! I'm sincere! I promise not to do it again!
Lupe: (Angry) You always say that but you don't even know how to practice it! (Pause for a while and lonely, stop beating her child) You don't know how to value our presence! How to value my presence as your mother! What if I'm gone? Who will take care of you? Just imagine Twinkle all alone! Twinkle without mother to care for her! Will you miss me Twinkle? Will you miss me and search for my protection!
Twinkle: (Proud and lonely) I'm so sorry Mom! I don't want those things to happen! I need you Mom; children need a mother to care for them! This time Mom! This time it's true! I promise not to make you angry anymore! I promise!
Lupe: I hope so! I'm hoping that you won't be a naughty child anymore! If you promise to, I will send you to school.
Twinkle: Is it true, mom? I'm going to school?
Lupe: Yes, now let's go home.
(Twinkle and Lupe will exit then lights out)
SCENE VI (Praying Scene)
(Betina will enter with a spotlight with a tragic religious song. Boknoy is hiding behind the sofa. Betina will pray the rosary intently. After praying, she will stand up, walk towards the sofa, then…)
Boknoy: (Exaggerated, Trying to frighten) Boo! (Lights on) What are you doing?
Betina: (Shocked) Oh! It's you, my dear son. Come, I have something for you. (Both will sit on the sofa)
Boknoy: (Exaggerated) Really! What is it Mom? I'm so excited!
Betina: It's a surprise. (Pause for a while) Now! Close your eyes.
Boknoy: (Excited w/ closed eyes) I'm too excited, Mom!
Betina: (Revealing a book) Now open your eyes! Surprise!
Boknoy: (Surprised) Wow! Does this mean I'm going to school?
Betina: (Suddenly quiet) Not yet, son.
Boknoy: (Wondering) But, Mom, I'm already twelve years old!
Betina: (Insisting) No you're not! You're too young to study, and perhaps you're only five years old!
Boknoy: (Curios) I'm only five years old?
Betina: Yes you are!
Boknoy: But Mom, I can feed myself, I can play my guitar together with Twinkle's doll! (Pause for awhile and proud) I can already write my ABC's and I can count from one to ten.
Betina: (Proud) Yes you can! It's because you're so intelligent! But you can't study at this moment…
Boknoy: (Worried) But I want to study! I want to be a writer someday! Do we have financial problems?
Betina: None, son. Don't be bothered. We are the richest family in this neighborhood. Just remember three things: We're rich! We're very rich! And we're very, very rich! (Pause for a while) By the way, what time is it?
Boknoy: (Proud) Ahm...ahm…the big hand of the clock is on number 12 and the small hand of the clock is on number 12, so it's already…
Betina: (Quickly) 12 o'clock! Oh, no! Just sit here, O.K. I'll just cook our lunch. You may go outside and play.
Boknoy: Thank you, mom! (Both will exit, lights out, change setting to outside1)
SCENE VII (First Confrontation Scene)
(Lights on showing Boknoy playing on a bench. Lucresia will enter, searching for someone.)
Lucresia: (Asking Boknoy) Excuse me, little child. Do you know a woman named Betina here?
Boknoy: Yes, of course! She is my mother! She is inside. Just wait and I'll call her…
Lucresia: (Stopping Boknoy) No, wait! Just stay here and tell me your name, child. (stroking his hair)
Boknoy: I am Boknoy, son of Betina, from the tribe Nagaraya!
Mrs. Lucresia: Ah, so you're Boknoy, the son of the woman who took away my husband! (Choke Boknoy) Your mother is a prostitute and she is the reason why my husband left me! I will have my revenge!
(Betina will enter, shoving Lucresia)
Betina: What are you doing with my child?
Mrs. Lucresia: (Giggles) Can't you see, I'm killing him?
Betina: (Trying to slap Lucresia) Stop that!
Mrs. Lucresia: (Holding the hands of Betina) Don't you even try to imagine doing that to me! I do not deserve to be touched by a pest like you! Wrinkled skin and grayed hair, signifying the death of an old slut!
Betina: (Taking her own hand) You do not have right to judge me like that! It's my life! And though I'm a slut, I know how to value love, the love of the family that completes the life of a better person. You're the only filthy woman in here! The reason your husband left you! Go away! Your husband is not here! Leave us alone!
Mrs. Lucresia: Bravo, bitch. Ba-ra-vo. (Pause for a while) No need to throw me out. With my dignity and reputation I will go out of here with a smile in my heart. But always be aware. I will be back to put an end to our miseries! (Exit)
Boknoy: Bhe! (Silent mockery) Mom, who's she? (Curious) Why is it that she's trying to kill me? I'm not doing anything to her! You said that we should not hurt anybody because it's bad! It's very bad mom! Really bad!
Betina: (Silent at first, then after regaining composure) Forget about what happened, son! And stay away from that woman. Now, let's go to the kitchen and prepare our lunch.
Boknoy: (Afraid) Ok, Mom.
(Exit, lights out)
SCENE VIII (Nun Scene)
Narrator: And once again, mixed feelings of fear, guilt, and anger filled Betina's heart. As if set-up by fate, a lifelong friend of Betina came back after three years of separation, just in time to prevent Betina from breaking down.
(Setting to Betina's house. Sister Anne will enter followed by a spotlight. She will light the candle on the altar. Then a religious song will be played (Sugg: Take Me Out of the Dark) then lights on. Betina will enter, surprised then turning to the audience.)
Betina: Sister Anne. Where have you been all these years?
Sister Anne: It has been three years after our last meeting
Betina: Yes sister, three years since you promised that you would bring me to the realm of the God.
Sister Anne: But my friend, you are the one making things complicated!
Betina: But don't you remember? You promised to bring me to the comfort of Jesus Christ? (Pause for a while) Look at me now! Still a sinful mother of a special child, still dwelling in poverty, still oppressed as the saint of the sinners!
Sister Anne: And don't you remember the promises you made from the start? The promise that you won't bring yourself to darkness! And the promise that you will never ever try to imagine bringing yourself in vain!
(Betina will come to the feet of the nun, then lights out, spotlight focused on them w/ a song)
Betina: Sister, help me! I need to correct my errors and I need to refresh my soul. I do not want to put myself to this position I am in now. I don't want to be a sinner. I just want to be an ordinary woman. Is it that difficult, sister? Is it?
Sister Anne: (Pitied) No, it isn't Betina! But we should admit the fact that there are some circumstances in our lives, which we could never explain. These are inexplicable things that only the Mightiest is proficient of answering them Even the wisest man are incapable of explaining and describing the Truth and the Reality. I do not understand your situation because even me as an innate person can't find answers to satisfy my satisfaction, to satisfy my needs and wants as a human being. But there's only one thing I'm sure of is living in this ecstasy, through the renewal of oneself through holistic change.
Betina: (Sad) Yes sister those things are indeed true! I understand that this world is full of secrets and mystery. But why is it that I'm suffering in this kind of life? Am I that sinful sister? Am I?
Sister Anne: (Pitied) No, you're not! There is a lot of good in you and I can see it in your eyes, in your heart, and in your soul! (Pause for awhile) Maybe because God is unfair but he is just and these complicated things are part of growth. It's part of one's life! The more we hurt, the more we should love! Each tear that falls in our eyes is the strength that is looking after us! These things make us stronger! It makes us alive!
Betina: (Satisfied) Thank you sister! Thank you for the advice! I understand now how true is the saying that "For every blow of the wind in the wilderness is the pain that flourish brought by the weakness". A saying that my son Boknoy keeps on telling me whenever I cry! Whenever tears fill my eyes! Whenever I'm down and troubled!
Sister Anne: I'll be glad to see my friend in her wondrous life.
Betina: I want to have a confession, Sister…
(Both will exit, followed by the spotlight. Lights out.)
SCENE IX (Reading-Hands Scene)
(Lights on, Twinkle will enter and play)
Boknoy: Hey you! What are you doing here Twinkle? Your mother might be looking for you again!
Twinkle: Come, I have something to tell you.
Boknoy: (Excited) Really? What is it?
Twinkle: (Happy) I'm going to school!
Boknoy: (Jealous) Is it true?
Twinkle: Yes, of course. How about you? Are you going to school, too?
Boknoy: My mother said I'm too young to study.
Twinkle: But you are already twelve years old!
Boknoy: Mother said I'm only five!
Twinkle: (Curious) Your only five? And why is it that you are too tall? You can already write ABC's and count from one to ten?
Boknoy: (Proud) It's because I'm intelligent! Yes! I'm just intelligent and my mother said that!
Twinkle: (Convinced) OK! Fine! Well we can never change one's destiny. Just like yours, it's not your fault of being poor.
Boknoy: (Angry) No. We're not poor! Mother said we're rich!
Twinkle: (Puzzled) You're rich? What does your mother do?
Boknoy: She reads hands.
Twinkle: She reads…hands? Why does she read hands?
Boknoy: So that she can tell what will happen!
Twinkle: She can do that by just reading hands?
Boknoy: (Proud) Yes, she can.
Twinkle: (Curious) Can she read my hands? I want to know if I'm going to be successful!
Boknoy: She can't read your hands!
Twinkle: But why?
Boknoy: Look at them! They're too small and too dirty! Besides, she reads only men's hands!
Twinkle: Only men's hands, but why?
Boknoy: Because they are big and easy to read!
Twinkle: How does she read hands? Like reading comics?
Boknoy: I don't know…
Twinkle: You don't know? Don't you watch her?
Boknoy: No, I don't!
Twinkle: Why not?
Boknoy: My mother won't let me, she sends out and play and she closes the door!
Twinkle: She closes the door? Don't you ever peep?
Boknoy: No, I don't.
Twinkle: Why not?
Boknoy: She'll scold me!
Twinkle: Poor, Boknoy! Anyway, I'm too excited of studying! I will become a doctor someday.
Boknoy: (Boastful) Me! I'm going to be a writer!
Twinkle: (Not convinced) Oh! Are you sure! I thought you won't study because you're only five years old! (Laughing)
Boknoy: Yes I'm only five! (Boastful) But when I grow up, mother said she would bring me to the most popular school in the world because we are rich! And she can make my dreams come true!
Twinkle: If you say so! Come, let's play outside!
Boknoy: Okay!
(Both will exit, lights out)
SCENE X (Drunkard Scene)
(Change setting to drunkards)
Narrator: Of course, in this neighborhood not only the youngsters are having fun. Uncivilized men, vicious as dogs, also gather to have their own merry-making.
(Lights on, showing drug addicts having a drinking session, sniffing drugs, smoking marijuana, playing guitar)
Drunkard1: Pare, Lupe is coming!
(Then, Lupe will pass by the drunkards. One of the drunkards, Berto, a dumped suitor of Lupe, stopped Lupe and tried to woo her.)
Berto: Lupe, my love! Come and have fun with us! (Laughter)
Lupe: I'm sorry but I got many things to do.
Berto: (Kneeling) Please, Lupe, I will give you everything! Just give me your love!
Drunkard: Pare, ang corny mo!
Lupe: I told you before to stop bothering me. I MEAN IT! (Lupe will exit, Berto will sink back to his seat.)
Drunkard: Pare, Lupe just dumped you! (With background insults)
Drunkard: What now, pare? You're really obsessed with that girl, db!
Berto: I have never been insulted like this before, pare. I need to make her pay for all these embarrassment!
Drunkard: What do you want to do now?
Berto: I have a plan. (They will form a circle, whispering, Lights Out.)
SCENE XI (Kidnap Scene)
(Outside2 setting. Lights on. Lupe, carrying a bayong with Boknoy and Twinkle enter. Berto & Company will enter. He will grab and cover the mouth of Betina. They will drag her off-stage.)
Twinkle: Mother! Mother! Mother! (Shouting and screaming)
Boknoy: (Shouting) They're taking her away! (Happy and laughing) They're taking her away! They're taking her away!
Twinkle: Mother! Mother! Mother! (Shouting but softer and she will starts to cry)
Boknoy: Oh! Why are you crying? Don't cry! Please don't cry! (He will wipe the eyes of Twinkle)
Twinkle: (Worried) They're going to hurt my mother!
Boknoy: (Persuading) No, they won't hurt her!
Twinkle: How do you know?
Boknoy: (Proud) I just know it!
Twinkle: (Interested while wiping her eyes) Come on, how did you know?
Boknoy: (Sad) OK! But please don't tell your mother that I told you their secrets!
Twinkle: (Glad) I promise!
Boknoy: (Telling a story) A while ago, your mother and the drunkards said that they will buy something for you!
Twinkle: (Wondering) For me?
Boknoy: (Proud) Yes, for you!
Twinkle: (Curious) But why?
Boknoy: (Persuading) Because today is your birthday! Happy birthday, Twinkle! Remember?
Twinkle: (Wondering) My birthday? Today is my birthday? But...
Boknoy: (Persuading) Yes, today is your birthday! Believe me!
(The Boknoy will push Twinkle playfully.)
Boknoy: Come on, Twinkle, catch me! Hurry birthday girl! Hurry!
Twinkle: (Laughing) Your so bad Boknoy! I'm coming! I will catch you!
(The two will run playfully off-stage, lights off)
SCENE XII (Last Confrontation)
(Set to Outside1, Lights on. Ernesto with Christina will enter. Ernesto will stop a passer-by and will ask)
Ernesto: Do you know this woman? (Showing a picture)
Passer-by: Ah, no.
Ernesto: Ok, thanks. (Passer-by will exit)
Christina: Father, I'm tired already! (Sitting on the bench) Let us sit first!
Ernesto: But I really need to find this person! Ok, rest here and I'll be back. I'll just go ask someone over there, ok?
Christina: Ok, Father! (Ernesto will exit while Christina will play with her doll)
(Betina will enter, carrying a bilao filled with kakanin, she will accidentally trip, spilling the contents to Christina.)
Christina: Oh no! My dress is ruined!
Betina: I'm so sorry! I did not mean to! Would you like some?
Christina: No! You're sorry. (She will get the food and smack it on the face of Betina) Does it taste good?
(Ernesto will enter, shouting)
Ernesto: Christina, stop that! (Then facing Betina, a love song will play) Betina?
Betina: Ernesto?
Ernesto: Betina!
Betina: Ernesto!
Ernesto: (Hugging Betina) Twelve years, Betina! Twelve years!
Betina: Yes, Ernesto it's been twelve years since we first met!
Ernesto: Yes Betina! Twelve years of longing for your love and affection!
Betina: (Releasing the hug then turning away) Why did you come here? What are you doing here? Ahhh! Maybe you came to ask my forgiveness?
Ernesto: No, I don't expect you to forgive me Betina! Not to forgive me completely but all I'll ask is...
Betina: For another chance, isn't it?
Ernesto: A last chance, Betina! A last chance!
Betina: (She will face backward) No, Ernesto! A last chance would be a lost chance!
Ernesto: But I know you love me still as much as I love you! I can feel the beating of your heart against mine. You still love me, Betina. Say you do Betina. Say you do!
Betina: How can I not love you Ernesto? How can I? You're one of the reasons why I'm still breathing. Why I'm still here and alive!
Ernesto: You know that I can't live without you and you're the reason why I left my wife! (Pause for a while) If we live together again Betina, I promise you to let you have your way and do what you wish.
Betina: Never again, Ernesto.
Ernesto: Why not? (Pause for a while) Are you forcing yourself to a lonely life?
Betina: I'm forcing myself to a lonely life? How dare you! You do not have right of saying those things. Kindly remember that I didn't force this loneliness upon myself: You did!
Ernesto: But…
Betina: But what? That someday I will realize that I shall regret my step? Perhaps, but if I do I shall have myself only to blame!
Ernesto: And my loneliness?
Betina: That's of your making, Ernesto. Can't you see? Of your making!
Ernesto: But I love you! And you love me too!
Betina: Can't you see I'm a sinner! And you have your own family!
Ernesto: But what is important is that we love each other!
Betina: (She will hug him and stroke his face) Oh, Ernesto! How can I forget you? How can't I cherish the love we had, if each day I live, I see the your face on our son!
Ernesto: (Holding Betina on the shoulders) We have a son?
Betina: Yes Ernesto! We have...
Ernesto: Is it true?
Betina: Yes, his name was Hokney!
Ernesto: (Surprised) Boknoy?
(Lucresia will enter with a gun pointed to them.)
Christina: Mom! (Going to Lucresia)
Mrs. Lucresia: Oh, what do we have here! Two snakes from the ravine of dirt!
Ernesto: Bring that gun down, Lucresia! It might hurt someone!
Mrs. Lucresia: Do you know who she is, Christina?
Christina: (Afraid) N-n-no, mom!
Mrs. Lucresia: She is a prostitute and she is the mistress of your father. She is the reason why your father left us!
Betina: Liar! You're a liar. (Pause for a while)
Mrs. Lucresia: Watch your word, bitch!
Mrs. Lucresia: (Looking at Ernesto) So, you really did have a relationship with this girl. A relationship with this filthy rubbish!
Ernesto: That was before, Lucresia. But I still love her more than you.
Mrs. Lucresia: I don't care! Just get out of my way or else... I'll kill you, too!
Ernesto: (Approaching Lucresia) Give me that gun, Lucresia. Give me that…
(Lucresia will shoot Ernesto. Then Betina will hug the lifeless body of Ernesto.)
Mrs. Lucresia: (Laughing) How sweet? So, sweet! Are you scared now, Betina? (She will shoot upward) Are you?
Betina: (Scared) No!
Mrs. Lucresia: (Pointing the gun to Betina) Are you afraid of the dark? I mean are you afraid to die, Betina? (Laughing)
Betina: No, please! My son needs me!
(Boknoy and Twinkle will enter but with a distance)
Boknoy: Mother! What's happening here? Why is it that she has a gun?
Betina: Boknoy! Stay there!
Mrs. Lucresia: What a reunion! (Pause for awhile) It seems that your knees are shaking now! My poor Betina! (Laughing)
Boknoy: Mom! What's happening here?
Twinkle: I think she wants to kill your mother.
Boknoy: Mom, is it true?
Betina: Please stop this, for God's sake, Lucresia I'm begging you!
Mrs. Lucresia: I'm very sorry Betina but I don't have mercy! Am I correct? Is that mercy you're asking for? (Laughing)
Boknoy: Mom, I'm asking you?
Betina: For the sake of our son and daughter, Lucresia, please stop this!
Lucresia: Too late, Betina, too late. Say your farewell now…
(While Lucresia is slowly pulling the trigger, Boknoy will run to take the bullet)
Betina: (Crying) No…! (A tragic song will play)
Mrs. Lucresia: Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! How I love this kind of scene! How does it feel now, Betina? I would not kill you quickly because I still want you to feel the pain longer! Hahaha! Feel it Betina! Feel it!
Betina: Lucresia! You're so evil! How can you do this? Ernesto! Boknoy!
Lucresia: Now, you know how does it feel to be left by someone you love! Don't worry, you're still lucky enough…to join them! I'm giving you a one-way ticket to hell, Betina! Farewell…
(Police siren will be heard, distracting Lucresia)
Lucresia: What the…? Come Christina let's go, faster before the police come.
(Lucresia and Christina will exit. Twinkle will kneel beside Boknoy)
SCENE XIII (Drama Scene)
Boknoy: Mom, why did you lie? Why did you say that you are not a prostitute? You promise not to lie!
Betina: (Crying) I'm sorry Boknoy. I just do it for your own sake because I just want to make you happy!
Boknoy: (Lonely) For my sake? For my happiness? You know Mom, even though you lied, I understand, because even though you know that I'm not like others and I serve as a burden to your happiness, you still loved me. You loved my disability, you cared for me, you guided me and protected me from. Danger! And for me, you are the best mother ever lived in the history of humankind.
Betina: (Silencing her son) Don't speak, son. It is difficult for you in your critical condition. Don't! Call the ambulance, Twinkle! Now! Faster! (Twinkle will exit running)
Boknoy: Mom, look above! There are so many angels! Angels wearing white shirts with their white wings! Their calling me! They want me to be there to play with them!
Betina: Don't follow them son, ok? Do you hear me? Don't go with them! Boknoy: Mom, I think I won't be staying any longer. But before I die, I would like to give you something and I want you to read it for me as I sleep.
(Boknoy will give a letter to Betina, Betina will read the letter. As Betina is reading it, there will be a song interpretation)
Dear Mom,
I know that it's too difficult to care, to love, to protect and to
guide a child like me. It's difficult to provide and to sustain my needs
because I am different from other children. But this imperfection of
mine did not prevent you from accepting who I am, the way I am. Instead,
my disposition permits you to accept the real me - being special and
this circumstances brought you to God's will.
If I were be given the chance to change my destiny of becoming just like an ordinary person, I won't! You are my reason! My mother! Being the best mother in the whole world who gave me everything I need.
With your hands I felt the comfort of a mother. In your caress, I felt the love and care everybody seek.
Thank you, mom! Thank you for loving me!
Boknoy
Betina: (Boknoy dead) Boknooooy! (Crying)
(After the song interpretation, a crazy Lupe will enter, dress torn and hair messed up.)
Betina: (Hugging Lupe) My dear cousin! Thank you for being here! W-w-what happened to you?
(Lupe will go to the dead bodies)
Lupe: Ooh, they're sleeping like babies! Hahaha…(Lunatic laughter)
(Lupe will exit while dancing crazily and laughing. Betina, at center stage, will fall down crying. Sister Anne will enter then lights out with spotlight on the two.)
Betina: Sister Anne! What is happening to my life? Has God forsaken me?
Sister Anne: No, my friend, never. God has forsaken no one. Not you, not me, not anyone. We may take God for granted but he will never ever leave his children.
Betina: And what do you call this? Redemption? My cousin, the only relative I have, is now a lunatic! The only man I loved and my only child was taken from me! I have nothing more left, sister! Isn't it rightful for me to just die?
Sister Anne: God works in his own mysterious ways no one knows why but Him. Everything he does have reasons. We are mere mortals and are not enough to question Him. Come with me and together we will have an exodus away from sin and wrongdoing! God is the only way and light we have!
Betina: No, sister. My life is now ruined! My reasons for living are gone! Thank you sister for being there. But no one can comfort me now! God has no care for me so why should I! I am of no importance to God! You lied to me, sister! (Facing the audience) All of you lied to me! I can't take this anymore sister! I can't! (exit crying)
Sister Anne: (center stage, spotlight focused) Faith. My friends, do we have enough of it? Or better still, do we have it? Yes, we do pray, but do we BELIEVE? Or doubt and skepticism rules our being? You maybe laughing now, but are you sure of what will life bring you? Are you ready for trials God had set for you to test your faith? Will YOU (pause) surrender your life to Him?
(Crazy Betina will enter with a spotlight, then will play childishly with a doll beside Sister Anne. She will lead pick her up and lead her off-stage while a song is played.)
