The City of San Fernando is the capital of Pampanga.  Its town church, the Assumption Cathedral, is the seat of the Archdiocese of San Fernando, which covers the entire province of Pampanga.  The city is named after San Fernando III, King of Castille and Leon in Spain,  whose feast is celebrated on May 30.

HISTORY

The town of San Fernando was established in the year 1754.  Many historians are unanimous on this fact. The list of town mayors also corroborates this claim as the first gobernadorcillo, Don Vidal de Arrozal, served in the year 1755.  San Fernando will celebrate its 250th anniversary in 2004.
