......and if you can't trust CNN, who can you trust!

-Here's a short report.
-If anyone's got any photos please slap them up!.
-In short MACBUSH production was a triumph for minimalist preparation, trust, old friends willing to do big favours on short notice, a community of nonviolent resisatnce & solidarity developing in Ireland and good weather!

FRIDAY
Things did not look good on the eve of opening for MACBUSH at DROMOLAND CASTLE. Lady MacBeth was in custody. The trees had been left in Limerick not Ennis. We had left the grooviest of banners in Dublin (check it out http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?story_id=65726

FRIDAY 6 pm I was dumped at Banratty Castle (being banned 5 mile radius of Shannon Airport) to do a solo vigil, while the car I was in went on to join folks protesting at Shannon. Mobile battery was low. Feeling very guilty about running out of the house and leaving an excellent banner that Geraldine had spent 2 days working on.

As I got my landlady on the line (Damien who is blessed with the charm usually deals with her!) and summoned my most reasonable personae....this mad hillbilly pulls up on a motorbike, revving it up and and threatening to shoot me. He is claiming to have a gun. I stride away from him continuing the conversation with my landlady in Dublin. This guy keeps revving up behind me and hurling abuse. I conclude the phone call with the landlady. She is willing to lend her keys to our house to a friend (who I am yet to think of, yet call). I turn to the psycho on the motorbike and convince him that I am more of psycho than he is. From memory "You better have a gun if you get off that bike. I've had shit day. Shooting me would be an improvement. Now begone with you!" He takes flight.

Started texting like crazy to friends in Dublin. Most of them are at the demo up there! Battery keeps cutting out. Get a text back from Lady MacBeth she has been sprung - but banned from the set! (yahoo I didn't think she'd be out of jail for a long time! She would be the only one to occupy the temporary gulag at Shannon Airport!). I had text my lawyer earlier as he was on his way from Cork to protest at Shannon. He got the message swung into Ennis and sprung the 3 boat people peaceniks and Lady MacBeth...what a guy!

My spirits are lifting! People are pulling up to offer me a lift to Shannon. Others are texting solidarity message from passing buses coming from Dublin & Cork. Starting to feel good....hope the motorbike guy doesn't come back! I feel like I got something to live for now! I feel like there's a community of solidarity been building over the last 2 years for me here in Ireland. And that community has sprung Lady MacBeth and just might get the banner down form Dublin!

Paul O'Toole, whattaguy (get his Shannon CD it's brilliant!!!!) text me "I'm outside 83 your land lady is not answering?"....No Paul .....that's our house ...........but before I can text this info the mobile battery totally dies............mmmm...well to avoid making a short story even longer......other peace cars kept stopping to say hello and I borrowed their mobiles....and I managed to hook up a (former Opus Dei) friend (with a former Republican Prisoner) friend and was assured the banner would be on the bus leaving Dublin in the morning.

The four hours on the side of the road was great time out, reflective, spitual, legions of cops on bikes and cars speeding by towards Shannon........they pretty much left me alone holding my bright pink sign. "No War: No War Planes Through Shannon!"

SATURDAY MORNING....
We rock into Clare Castle at 9.20 am.....

We hope for enough folks to carry the trees (25). We set up the casting space..Do you wanna be a tree? Do you wanna be a witch? (You have to be a witch we haven't got any ok?), You may have to be Lady MacBeth, she's banned from the area now.OK? Here have drum! You gotta be George Bush, great mask have this medievel gear to go with it! Great - a nuclear family of trees. Team talk...basic background on what we're going to do. Apolgies to Shakespear but Lady MacBeth is a good gal in this one grieving for the slain children and raging against hubby in Dromoland castle. Off we go, let's take the street!

By 10 am - 300 set off with us for the 4 mile walk to gardai lines on the way to Dromoland. Great weather, good vibe (very mixed crew), excellent drumming trio from Galway. Jimmy Fleming, what a dude, met him in Brissie years ago...back in Galway now..gave up Rugby tok up theatre and he's made the trees, medieavely type costumes, got his big brother and a mate to play to the drums as well!

As we get closer to the end of the walk.....

SWP buses speed by with a mile to go.
SWP try to block our path-they fail!
SWP try to lead us-they fail!
SWP try to drown us out-they fail!

Auditioned witch and Lady Macbeth can;t make it-understudies Jan and Caoimhe rise to the occasion (and I wasn't bad meself as Banquo!).

SWP try to drown out trees reading the names of dead Iraqi children, their ages when they were massacred and how the U.S. military killed them (these folks have no respect for the dead!) Now that can't be a good sign?

Can't get my head around the primary school churlishness of the SWP (not mentioning the 1300 folks at Shannon last night from the platform in Dublin last night or on their platform this morning)......really you wouldn't survive in an Australian high school with that attitude.

Can't get my head around RBB's explanation that they have the right to block us, lead us, drown us out because RBB has made a deal with the cops. Seriously deluded Middle Class boy if he thought that was going to work with a irish-australian working class boy who has just walked 4 miles with 300 folks RBB YOUTH is now trying to block and has MACBUSH to put on.

Unfotrunately RBB meets me in my Banquo role....and being, as I am from the New York method school of acting, he gets the response one would expect from a dead soldier! "Fuck that for a game of soldiers! We don't make deals with cops on free expression, it's a universal right only endangered by such deals. Stop blocking our trees dude. Watch the plug on your speaking equipment!"....and off we go up to cop lines to unleash MACBUSH).

I advise RBB to go back to pulling authoritarian trips on people who are impressed by his boyish good looks & media profile, are riddled with middle class angst and haven't got a clue how the SWP ("Invasion of the Body Snatchers") operate in popular movements!

RBB tries to macho it out, but when the main stream media come a runinng to record us going for it (Last interchange "You're a moderate Richard" / "You're a Goddist!"...heavy NOT.....RBB gets so freaked out by his media image at risk, that he retreats.....me being a dead Banquo is not too concerned about the media and happy to be called a Goddist.....if you were dead you wouldn't want to be offendig any Gods either wouldja?

RBB retreats, our drummers accelarate, our trees break through the lines of RBB YOUTH trying to block them.....long story you had to be there....

W get up to Gardai lines and unleash MACBUSH and the rest, as they say, is history (hopefully contributing to a dissident memory here in Ireland) and an international news flash...thank you CNN....RTE reports on the SWP V CW hand bags at 20 paces....

MACBUSH was brill!! The serious stuff is drawn from 2 lists we ask you to visit and reflect on in quieter times

A list of U.S. military dead, age ,rank, date of death....
http://icasualties.org/oif/Details.aspx

A list of Iraqi dead, their ages and place and means of death.....

http://

After MACBUSH, we played a support role to Eoin Rice serious attempt to arrest Bush. Eoin had brought his own cage in case the Gardai were a bit sort on resources (ya gotta love the guy and the crew carrying the cage!). He didn't get the real one so we gave him our Bush for a while, but had to rescue our guy when Eoin and cage started heading into Gardai lines!

Also did some support and reading of the dead for the great folks who lay under black plastic in the heat symbolising the dead!

Sounds like it was great at Shannon on Friday and Saturday (events airbrushed outta history by the IAWM- who refused to mention them in their long litany of significant events over the weekend-from the stage!) These people complain about Stalin airbrushing their boy Trotsky outta photos and the Dublin City Council ripping down their posters. They could teach Uncle Joe and the DCC a lot about censorship.

Day concluded for us with a walk back to Clare Castle and an invite by a local for a cup of tea. AGREAT DAY FOR US - RESISTANCE/MACBUSH, HOSPITALITY/the cup of tea at the end and the crash space in Limerick on Friday night & COMMUNITY / the growing network of folks who will support those busted this past weekend/ (Lady MacBeth, Ed and the two other peace sailors!)

Why those 3 themes are the CW program!!!??!!. So are we happy with MACBUSH?..you betcha!

CNN reports that MACBUSH drove George outta Ireland..what a laugh! Awed by those (who ever you are?) who blocked the media getting to the BUSH-AHERN LOVE IN PRESS CONFERENCE. You rock!

Beyond our wildest expectations. Thanx to all who made it happen!

From CNN.com:

Protesters 'drive' Bush from Ireland

Saturday, June 26, 2004 Posted: 1338 GMT

CLARECASTLE, Ireland (Reuters) -- Irish protesters used Shakespeare to blitz George W. Bush on Saturday, invoking Macbeth, a ghost and a witch to cast a spell on the U.S. president and drive him, symbolically at least, from Irish soil.

Some 500 demonstrators marched on Dromoland Castle, the 16th century turreted mansion in western Ireland where Bush met European Union leaders for a summit.

When they were stopped at a police road block, they staged their own version of Shakespeare's bloody Scottish tragedy.

First, a ghost with a whited-out face read the names of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq. Then a woman dressed as Lady Macbeth read a list of Iraqi victims.

Finally, a woman dressed as a witch with a black pointy hat and a flowing cape cast a spell on a man wearing a Bush face mask. The man crumpled to the floor as the witch ordered him to leave Ireland and end the occupation of Iraq.

The protesters held up a banner adorned with a quote from Macbeth, Shakespeare's powerful drama of death, destruction and ambition in feudal Scotland.

"There's the smell of blood still," read the banner, on which was painted a gory hand. "All the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this little hand."

Some 50 police officers watched the drama unfold from behind their roadblock, just half a mile from the castle where Bush was staying for the EU-U.S. summit. The protest passed peacefully and the crowd dispersed after around 90 minutes.

The staging of "MacBush" was one of several events organised by demonstrators to show their anger with the president's visit.

Some 10,000 people marched through Dublin on Friday night in opposition to both U.S. policy in Iraq and Ireland's decision to host Bush and allow U.S. jets to refuel at one of its airports en route to the Gulf.

Further protests were expected later on Saturday before Bush leaves for Istanbul, where he will attend a NATO summit.

The Irish have mounted a huge security operation to protect the president, with 6,000 police and troops on the ground backed by planes, helicopters, surface-to-air missiles and tanks.

"One can only assume that if (Irish Prime Minister) Bertie Ahern is prepared to deploy tanks, he is also prepared to use them on the Irish people," said Roger Cole, chairman of the Peace & Neutrality Alliance protest group. "That is a disgrace."

Bush's visit has contrasted sharply with those of previous U.S. presidents who were warmly welcomed in Ireland -- particularly those with Irish roots.

John F. Kennedy was greeted with almost religious fervor in 1963, Ronald Reagan had a pub named after him in his ancestral village in Tipperary when he came in 1994 and thousands of well wishers greeted Bill Clinton when he came to Dublin.

US Embassy: 18-Hour Vigil for Peace
by Anti-War Ireland - Anti-War Ireland/Pitstop Ploughshares Wednesday, Jun 23 2004, 2:28am

Anti-War Ireland Vigil

Vigil For Peace At The US Embassy for Duration Of Bush Visit

Anti-war activists will hold an 18-hour overnight peace vigil at the US embassy in Ballsbridge, Dublin, for the duration of George W. Bush's stay in Ireland. The vigil will begin at 8.15pm on Friday night as Bush lands at Shannon airport.

So far those participating are Fintan Lane, convenor of Anti-War Ireland (currently banned from County Clare), and Deirdre Clancy, of Anti-War Ireland, Catholic Worker Movement and the Pitstop Ploughshares (currently banned from within five miles of Shannon airport). Both Lane and Clancy have served time in Limerick Prison as a result of non-violent civil disobedience in opposition to Ireland's complicity in the US war machine.

People should feel free to attend the vigil, even for a short time, in solidarity with those who have suffered at the hands of US foreign policy. The planned vigil is one of a variety of ways in which people affiliated with Anti-War Ireland are currently making their voices heard in opposition to the Bush aministration's policy in Iraq, Afghanistan and the whole of the Middle East.

Deirdre Clancy of the Anti-War Ireland and the Pitstop Ploughshares said: "I am dismayed at the government's welcoming of George Bush onto Irish soil, but not surprised. The Fianna Fail/PD coalition of the willing has consistently given mixed messages about its position on the murderous and disasterous foreign policy of the current US administration, while failing to provide any meaningful critique to the US government itself. Both Afghanistan and Iraq have been destabilized even further than before, and millions have suffered and died as a result of the 'might is right' policy of a US political elite, hell bent on further global economic dominance. The same diplomats who were placed in Central America in the 1980s and who funded death squads in countries like Nicaragua are now being posted to Iraq. We cannot afford to sit back and watch the US administration set up brutal puppet regimes in the Middle East in the way it has done in other countries in the past."

Fintan Lane, convenor of Anti-War Ireland said: "This vigil is in solidarity with those suffering as a result of Bush's belligerent war policy, but it is also a protest against the Irish government's complicity with the U.S. war machine. Shannon airport continues to facilitate the US military with more than 10,000 soldiers and their weapons passing through each month. It's a disgrace. An Irish civilian airport has been integrated into the U.S. war machine and we have been dragged into a war that most Irish people oppose. Bush has no intention of stopping at Iraq and it is clear that the global anti-war movement has a key role to play in forcing an end to the war policy of the current US adminstration. We hope that thousands take to street this weekend in opposition to the presence of George W. Bush."

Call for International "Demiliatrise Shannon Airport" Vigils at Irish Embassies - June 25th/26th.

Cut, Paste & Send to Your Friends Internationally!

REQUEST -
We are asking you to hold a peace vigil at the Irish Embassy, Consulate or a site of significance in your town or city on June 25th. or 26th.

VIGIL DEMAND

The international vigils will be demanding the Irish Government withdraw Shannon Airport's provision of facilities to the U.S. military. The Irish government has transformed the civilian airport into the major pit stop for the U.S. war machine's invasion, occupation and plunder of Iraq. According to official figures, 125,855 U.S. troops have travelled via Shannnon to the Middle East last year. For the last 18 months, an average of 10,000 U.S. troops have used Shannon as a transit centre to the Middle East.

WHY JUNE 25TH. OR 26TH.

On the evening of June 25th. George W Bush will be landing at Shannon Airport, County Clare. He is in Ireland for the latest EU (European Union) - U.S. summit to be held at Dromoland Castle on June 26th. Also present at Dromoland Castle will be the representatives of EU states involved in the war - Italy, the UK and Poland. On June 26th Bush will leave through Shannon to fly to Turkey for a NATO summit.

NONVIOLENT RESISTANCE TO IRELAND'S ROLE IN THE U.S/U.K. WAR ON IRAQ

Also at Shannon on June 25th. & at the Dromoland Castle on the 26th. will be the activist Irish peace movement (www.antiwarireland.org, www.ambush2004.org). In a recent public opinion poll, 67% of Irish people oppose Bush's visit to Ireland. Shannon Airport has been the site of effective nonviolent resistance to the U.S./U.K war on Iraq.

Two nonviolent disarmament actions by Mary Kelly (www.freewebs.com/mary_kelly/) and the Catholic Worker Pit Stop Ploughshares (www.ploughsharesireland.org) in Jan/Feb 2003 led to 3 private U.S. companies transporting U.S. troops to vacate Ireland during the lead up to U.S. invasion of Iraq. The U.S. Navy war plane en route to the war had to turn around and head back to Ft. Worth, Texas.

Other Irish peace activists arrested during nonviolent blockade and trespass actions at Shannn Airport have also been barred from County Clare. Meanwhile, Donal Rumsfield has lead pro-war rallies of U.S troops within the confines of the airport. The Pit Stop Ploughshares await trial in Dublin. They all face a maximum of ten years imprisonment if convicted.

VIGILS AT IRISH EMBASSIES/ June 2003

Last June their were solidarity peace vigils at Irish Embassies/Consulates & sites of significance in Houston, New York, Washington DC, Chicago, Vancouver, Bishop Romero's tomb/El salvador, Dili/East Timor, Sydney, Wellington, Christchurch, Auckland, Berlin, France, Amsterdam, Bulgaria, Brussels, Ghotenburg, London, Glasgow, rural Wales, Belfast, Dublin as the Pit Stop Ploughshares faced court in County Clare.

Ploughshare Activist on Hat Trick of Presidential Pardons!
by Pitstop Ploughshares Tuesday, Jun 15 2004, 11:17am
pitstopploughshares@hotmail.com
http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?story_id=65537

Australian peace activist given presidential pardon from East Timor leader, Xanana Gusmao for disarmament of a US Navy Aircraft docked at Shannon Airport, Ireland where 10,000 US troops pass through every month.

Xanana Gusmao & Ciaron O'Reilly

East Timorese President Xanana Gusmao, following in the wake of Martin Sheen of the West Wing, embraced and pardoned Australian peace activist Ciaron O'Reilly. O'Reilly met Xanana in Ireland and gave him a copy of his book "Remembering Forgetting-A Journey of Nonviolent Resistance to the War on East Timor" (Otford Press, Australia, 2001). Turning to the photo of a disarmed BAe Hawk Jet Fighter in the book, Xanana smiled and embraced O'Reilly. The Hawk had been disarmed in January 1996 at BAe's Warton Lancashire factory. The fighter, ready for immediate export, was painted in Indonesian military markings and was disarmed by four women "The Seeds of HopePloughshares" (http://www.plowsharesactions.org/webpages/weba.htm).

O'Reilly moved to England as the four women were brought to trial in Liverpool in July '96 after spending 6 months in Risley Prison on remand. Jose Ramos Horte gave evidence at the trial to how his siblings were killed by bombardments by British war planes flown by Indonesian pilots. Horte remarked, " In 20 years of struggle we have not been able to ground one of these war planes, yet you Ploughshares women have done it nonviolently without even injuring a pilot." Horte was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize later that year.

O'Reilly was involved in organising support around the trial and stayed on in Liverpool to found a nonviolent resistance community with pacifist Catholic Workers and East Timorese exiles. They carried out a sustained campaign of nonviolent resistance to BAe, one of the world's largest arms dealers. The community suffered multiple arrests, high court injunctions and infiltration by a private intelligence corporation subcontracted to BAe.

In 1998 O'Reilly with Treena Lenthall (formerly of the Liverpool Catholic Worker) carried out a ploughshares action at the Jabiluka uranium mine disabling an excavator. After completing a 5 month sentence in Berrimah Prison Darwin, they travelled to East Timor to celebrate Indonesian military evacuation with some of the East Timorese with who they had lived and struggled.

In 2002 O'Reilly founded the Dublin Catholic Worker in Ireland the country of his father's birth (http://www.dublincw.community.ie). He began to campaign against the militarisation of Shannon Airport in County Clare. By the end of 2002, over 10,000 U.S. troops were passing through Shannon on their way to war in Iraq. Recent reports point to prisoners passing through to Guatanamo and the passage of cruise and patriot missile components through Shannon.

On February 3rd. 2003 O'Reilly and four other Catholic Workers made their way into the airport and disarmed a U.S. Navy war plane. The Pit Stop Ploughshares 5 await trial in Dublin charged with $US 2.5 million criminal damage (sic) to the war plane and €200 to the hangar window. They face a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment (http://www.ploughsharesireland.org).

O'Reilly recently stated, "A court result like Liverpool '96 would be nice but wouldn't determine if the witness was a success or not! The ANZUS Plowshares at Griffiss Air Force base in New York 1991 for which I was sentenced to 13 months and "transportation to Australia" and the Jabiluka Ploughshares were great communities & acts of nonviolent resistance. The Pit Stop Ploughshares are a great crew and the actions immediate result was one piece of the U.S. war machine turning around & going home and 3 companies transporting U.S. troops to war vacating Ireland. Long term, the Jabiluka mine is closed as is Griffis Air Force Base - they had "Woodstock '99 there. The Pit Stop Ploughshares have acted in conscience, now the jury's conscience will have a chance to express itself. Ploughshares actions are beautiful human actions. The Seeds of Hope disarmament touched Xanana in his prison cell and obviously touches him today as a President!. All these actions and communities of nonviolent resistance should inspire us all! A hat trick of presidential pardons would be fun"

"The poor tells us who we are,
The prophets tell us who we could be,
So we hide the poor,
And kill the prophets" - Phil Berrigan

Australian Ploughshares activist Treena Lenthall is returning to Australia after three years in Ireland. The June 20th. farewell party at DCW 83 Corrib Rd. Kimmage (19 a bus to Lower Kimmage Rd.) will be preceded by the weekly Catholic Worker liturgy at 3pm celebrated by Fr Martin Newell of Jubilee Ploughshares.

Liturgy will be followed at 4pm by reflections shared on nonviolent disarmament actions, trial & prison experiences by :

Ciaron O'Reilly – ANZUS Plowshares

Fr Martin Newell – Jubilee Ploughshares

Damien Moran – Pitstop Ploughshares

& Treena – Jabiluka Ploughshares

Treena was born in Melbourne in 1973. In the Christmas of 1974 she was evacuated from Darwin as Cyclone Tracy flattened Darwin. Treena was evacuated on a Hercules military transporter. Treena's soldier father was then posted to Brisbane, where she grew up and completed her formal education. In 1994, her final year of a Social Work degree at the University of Queensland, she stumbled across the radical peace & justice movement. Treena moved into The Waiters Union, a faith based community with a preferential option for refugees, aborigines and people with learning disabilities located in the neighborhood of West End, Brisbane. In West End, Treena encountered two Catholic Worker communities - Dorothy Day House and Greg Shackleton House. She began to join them in their nonviolent resistance to Australian complicity in the ongoing genocide being conducted in East Timor.

In 1996, Treena travelled to the United States spending the year living & working with Catholic Worker communities in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Washington DC & New York City. At the end of 1996, Treena co-founded a Catholic Worker community in Liverpool, England offering hospitality & solidarity to East Timorese exiles and Irish families visiting loved ones in Walton Prison, Merseyside. She was arrested on the "Feast of Innocents" 1996 charged with trespass at British Aerospace, Warton, where Hawk Jet Fighters were being constructed and sold to the Indonesian genocidal Suharto dictatorship.

In 1997, Treena returned to Australia where she lived & worked in an asylum seeker safe house and continued nonviolent resistance to the war on East Timor. She was arrested at Cunungra Army Land Warfare Base, where her father had once trained for the Vietnam War, and where Indonesian troops were being trained to wage war on the East Timorese. In 1998, Treena was joined by Ciaron O'Reilly in the Jabiluka Ploughshares disabling of uranium mining equipment at the Jabiluka mine site in Kakadu National Park, Northern Territory, Australia. Treena did a split shift of 4 months total jail time as a consequence of this action - the mine was eventually closed down due to the resistance of the Mirrar traditional owners and the broader nonviolent resistance movement. On her final release from Berrimah Prison Darwin, Treena hitched a lift on a Hercules military flight to East Timor. At Dili Airport she met one of the East Timorese she had offered hospitality to in Liverpool. He had returned to his homeland after the Indonesian troops had finally left in late 1999.

In 2001, Treena moved to England where she was involved in support for the Jubilee Ploughshares who were imprisoned on remand awaiting trial for disabling the nuclear convoy vehicle that transports warheads from Aldermaston to Faslane Trident Base in Scotland. Following the trial Treena moved to Dublin where she worked with homeless young people living with heroin addiction. She also organised the legal support for Reclaim the Streets May Day 2002, where Garda rioted on nonviolent dancers in Dame Street. In August 2002 she was arrested, with three others, in a nonviolent occupation of Dublin’s Dutch Embassy on the anniversary of the Netherlands sell out of the West Papuan people to the Indonesian military.

Treena then moved to Belfast mid-2002 where she continued her work with the homeless and founded a faith based community called Witness . In 2004 she joined Damien Moran & Ciaron O'Reilly in an expanded experiment with a live in Dublin Catholic Worker community commited to faith based intentional community, the acts of mercy and nonviolent resistance .

Many thanx Treena for sharing your gifts, humour & experience with the movement for justice and peace here in Ireland. Damien Moran & Ciaron O'Reilly Dublin Catholic Worker

While most bands try for a record deal, this band of resistance rockers from Dallas Texas is trying for a new leader of the Free World.

Calling themselves Halliburton(s), front man Nathan Berg says the band’s name is a theft meant to dis-honor the profound thievery of Texas energy giant Halliburton Corp., formerly run by Bush-agenda architect and Vice President of the U.S., Dick Cheney. Berg is former jazz bassist with Maynard Ferguson and John Scofield, enfant–terrible of the American economics scene, and champion of protest rock, a neglected but potent outlet for outing the bad intentions of Bush’s band of neocons and their vision of a new world disorder.

The band’s ‘Lick Bush in ’04’ tour comes to Ireland in June to coincide with the visit of President Bush. The Halliburton(s) implore listeners to ‘throw that Bush crew out the back door!’.

A blend of critique and beat: with lyrics on Iraq, corporate sleaze, tax cuts, health care, joblessness and corruption, Halliburton(s) songs combine edgy grooves with a provocative brand of patriotism that doesn’t hesitate to confront real world problems. Halliburton(s) music celebrates liberty by questioning the rules that shape the lives of contemporary Americans.

The band has gained major recognition in their hometown of Dallas Texas – despite it being the heartland of Bush Neo Conservatism. They represent a new, almost still young, edgy and articulate face of political protest music.

Halliburton(s) are part of a current political movement in the U.S. which sees Democrats, artists, musicians, and other left leaning groups pooling their energies in an aggressive media push to promote sensible priorities for America ahead of the upcoming 2004 presidential election.

Halliburton(s) features Nathan Berg (guitar, vocals), Jaimie Carswell (bass), Phara Charmchi (vocals), George Urich (drums) Tuesday June 15th : doors 8 pm Whelan's : Wexford St., Dublin : 01 478 0766 Tickets : € 12 (all profits to be donated to John Kerry election campaign)

1) LEGAL UPDATE
Deirdre Clancy, Nuin Dunlop, Karen Fallon, Damien Moran & Ciaron O'Reilly are awaiting trial charged with two counts of criminal damage ($US 2.5 million & 200 euros). Charges arise out of their 3/2/03 nonviolent disarmament of a U.S. Navy War Plane at Shannon Airport en route to the invasion of Iraq. Shannon Airport continues to host 10,000 U.S. troops a month, enroute to the invasion, occupation and plunder of Iraq.

In December 2003, (trial) Judge Mathews ordered the Prosecution to provide further discovery to the Ploughshares defendants. The discovery ordered relates to the nature of U.S. military flights stopping off at Shannon in the six months preceeding to the action. The Prosecution are keen to strip the disarmament of any military context and reduce it to vandalism.

One working day before the discovery was due (26/1/04) the Prosecution team was replaced and moves began to get Judge Mathews to reverse his December decision. The Ploughshares have returned to the Four Courts eight times this year as these Prosecution machinations played themselves out. On Feb. 29th. Judge Mathews ruled "it is as it was" on the discovery question. This Thursday (May 27th.)the Prosecution will initiate a judicial review on Judge Mathews discovery rulings. The defendants are also required to appear before Judge Mathews on a remand hearing this Thursday (May 27th.)
