Follett Review

This was set up by the government (Department of Education & Skills) to investigate the management systems relating to medical personnel who have joint contracts working for both Hospital & University.

Professor Sir Brian Follett was appointed to carry out the review, which he completed on 14th July 2001. Sir Brian made a special trip to Liverpool on the 16th of August to explain the review to PITY II.

Although the review was national it owes its instigation largely due to the events in Liverpool. As you know Professor Dick van Velzen did work for both Alder Hey & Liverpool University, and the Redfern Inquiry's findings and recommendations are looked at in the review.

Brian Follett's report is now with ministers who are considering his recommendations for reform. Its publication is expected early in September this year and PITY II have been promised a copy of the report.

We look forward to reading the full report and the implementation of its recommendations.
A copy of the minutes of our meeting with Sir Brian Follett is available upon request.

PITY II (Parents who have Interred Their Young Twice) is the parents' support group set up in the wake of the organ retention scandal
at Alder Hey Hospital (Liverpool, UK). It aims to provide self help support and advice to affected families.
