Retained
Organs Commission
PITY II representatives attended a workshop on the 27th November 2001 at the invitation of the Retained Organs Commission. Parents, relatives and patients representatives, voluntary organisations and support groups from around the country also attended the workshop. The workshop was held to brief people on the work of the commission, but most of all to enable the commission to obtain views and comments on their work to date. Many other important issues surrounding organ retention such as the return of organs to relatives and regulation of retention of organs and tissue for the future were included. How to prevent the events of the past was also discussed and the promised changes to the law. PITY II was ably represented and our views were voiced clearly and directly. The following week Professor Margot Brazier and Steve Catling, Chair and Chief Executive of the ROC (respectively) attended a PITY II meeting on the 6th of December to give us a further progress report. This was part of the ROC's commitment to keep us informed and involved. The next meeting is yet to be decided upon but will probably be in the early part of 2002.
