Litigation & Mediation: Statement from PITY II.

With reference to the recent media attention surrounding the mediation process.

We would like to clarify the situation regarding PITY II and the litigation and mediation issues.

PITY II as a group has not had any involvement in the litigation or subsequent mediation process.

Any action taken by parents and families regarding litigation is a matter of choice that is personal to them. Some have decided to be part of the litigation and others have chosen not to be. Either way, everyone has the right to make their own choice and that decision is respected

Once the choice is made to be part of the process, it then becomes a matter of client and solicitor confidentiality and PITY II has not had access to any information considered to be of a confidential nature.

It would appear that some people have misconstrued the role of PITY II in this. We have not been part of the decision-making process with regard to the recent mediation offer. Members of the PITY II committee were not part of the reference group who negotiated the offer and we have no knowledge of the membership of the said group.

Any information or details that you require in relation to the mediation offer should be channelled through your individual solicitors.

Thank You

PITY II (Parents who have Interred Their Young Twice) is the parents' support group set up in the wake of the organ retention scandal
at Alder Hey Hospital (Liverpool, UK). It aims to provide self help support and advice to affected families.
