PITY II Meeting with Retained Organs Commission

In February 2002 the ROC sent out a lengthy consultation document relating to retained organs and tissue to a large number of organisations and parent groups including PITY II. We in turn sent the document out to our membership.

The Retained Organs Commission has now analysed the responses that they received to this document and are now beginning to formulate their initial decisions. Before finalising their decisions, the Commission is seeking further views from certain groups on specific issues. One of the groups consulted was PITY II and members of the PITY II Executive were invited to a consultation meeting with the ROC on the 9th January 2003 in Liverpool .

The new consultation document on Tissue Blocks and Slides was also discussed. Responses to this will help the ROC when they are recommending on the future legal status of Tissue Blocks and Slides to government ministers.

We will, as always, keep you informed of future developments.

PITY II (Parents who have Interred Their Young Twice) is the parents' support group set up in the wake of the organ retention scandal
at Alder Hey Hospital (Liverpool, UK). It aims to provide self help support and advice to affected families.
