The Cardiac Review

By now you should have heard the results of the Review of the Cardiac Unit at Alder Hey, conducted by Professor John Ashton, Regional Director of Public Health.

Copies of the report have gone to all co-ordinators, and many have already circulated them around their members. Alder Hey has also sent copies out on request. If you have not got a copy and want one, then speak to your co-ordinator, or contact the office. It is also available on the Internet at: www.doh.gov.uk/nwro/alderheycardiac.htm

The legal team are hoping to get a cardiac surgeon from elsewhere in the country to go through the report. It seems that there is no cause for concern about current services at Alder Hey, but there are still some questions arising from treatment in the early to mid nineties. Those parents whose children died before 1991 and after 1997 are still left without any answers at all.

PITY II (Parents who have Interred Their Young Twice) is the parents' support group set up in the wake of the organ retention scandal
at Alder Hey Hospital (Liverpool, UK). It aims to provide self help support and advice to affected families.
