What is an Anabaptist?

Anabaptist does NOT mean "Anti-Baptist"...it means "REbaptizer".

Anabaptists are a group of churches that originated in Europe in the 1500's. They were considered radical because they did not accept infant baptism and rebaptized adults. At that time, this was heretical. Anabaptists were severely persecuted by both Catholics and Protestants. Many died at the stake, some were drown or executed in other gruesome ways.

Today, Conservative Anabaptist groups like Old Order Amish, German Baptist Brethren, Old Order Mennonites and conservative Mennonites still exist as a distinct and separate group. They have maintained their distinctive doctrine based on strict interpretation of the Bible which includes separation from the world.
