You have to have a plan! The next thing
you do is stick to it! If you don't you might
wind up getting stuck in that one place.
So 1st you want to find out where it is you are going. Best
figure out places you long wanted to visit like the temple
of Hatshepsut, a lama-trail full of dung or a dripping vulcano.
Start with writing down the countries and next the sights that attract you the most in that country. Once you've got the list in order be prepared to eliminate a lot of those places when it turns
out its virtually impossible to get there along the way. You have got all sorts of things you might want to consider while planning along.

Get one of those books in which experienced worldtravelers explain which are the best seasons to visit the countries of your choice.
Above: The Big Island of Hawai'i Vulcano you can hike to.

Next try to connect the countries and estimate the time you have to        stay in each country in order to get to your next destination at exact the  best time to visit it.(Weatherwise)  You might want to consider that        backtracking is not allowed  when your planning to buy a  "worldticket" (often the best deal  in flying around the world).  There are a number of  companies that offer worldtickets that include a number of stops around the world and sometimes you can buy extra stops at a fair bargain price.

This picture is taken near the
rim of the grandcanyon, U.S.A. on the southern side.
In the back you can see once upon a time a watchtower has been erected for strategic purposes.
Right: a copy of Japans famous Byodo-In temple stands against a beautiful backdrop of an Hawaiian mountain chain on the island of Oahu.
On the left:

Here you can see the Aloha tower in the background in Oahu's Honolulu harour. This is near the Ala Moana shopping centre. The center can be reached by bus from downtown Honolulu and Waikiki-beach.
So remember you either fly towards the west or towards the east when you are considering a worldairticket. You can also choose to end the trip in a country and not take the last flight home and go overland from there. Be careful sometimes countries want you to show ongoing tickets to make sure you are leaving. You could ofcourse also buy another worldticket starting in that country, like we did!
