Linda, The radios are fm wireless units with headsets and vox(voice activated mic).  Radio unit clips onto a belt.  I bought a pair of shooters ear muffs and wired the radios into the headphones.  Cheap way to get a premium system.  Allows for hands free communication up to 1/4 mile away, although, my wife says if she is ever 1/4 mile away I must stop, she has fallen out of the boat!!!
