Family and Friends
an album of some of those who matter to me

If you have sound, you will hear a  favourite song by Simon and Garfunkel
 Bridge Over Troubled Water
The words are so apt for my feelings towards the people on this page

 When you're weary, feelin' small
When tears are in your eyes, I will dry them all.
I'm on your side, Oh, when times get rough
And friends just can't be found.
Like a bridge over troubled waters
I will lay me down.
Like a bridge over troubled waters
I will lay me down.
When you're down and out, when you're on the street
When evening falls so hard, I will comfort you.
I'll take your part, Oh when darkness comes
And pain is all around
Like a bridge over troubled waters
I will lay me down.
Like a bridge over troubled waters
I will lay me down.
Sail on children, sail on by
Your time has come to shine, all their dreams are on their way
See how they shine, Oh when you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled waters
I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled waters,
I will ease your mind.
I'll ease your mind.

I have a small family, and few of them are willing to be photographed! I have, however, managed to get the photograph on the right of my mum. This was taken some time ago at the 80th birthday celebrations of her sister. Below are photographs of my best girl - Virginia, known to all as Ginnie, the granddaughter of my cousin - looking angelic as only a two year old can.

MY FAMILY TREE

My friends at work are far harder to pin down with photographs than Ginnie, who loves to be photographed - it is amazing how quickly people can move when a camera is around.

Probably the best friend anyone could have is Carol, without whom work would be an intolerable place. As in any true friendship we have been through thick and thin, good and bad, and our friendship is all the stronger. With Carol words are not necessary. Twenty years have just flown by.

I once spent some time daydreaming about being rich enough to leave work, and I realised that there are several people whom I would miss, Carol of course, but also Heather and Julie who are both such sweet people it is a pleasure to spend a few minutes in their company; Maureen whose outlook on life is one of such exuberance; Lesley and Neal who sit nearest to me in the staffroom and make each day pleasant with their chatter. I count each one a friend and feel blessed by their friendship.

It is unfortunate that I have not been able to get a single picture of any of them.

Someone once said that the important difference between family and friends is that you choose your friends. I also recently read that friends are the family that you choose for yourself. Thanks everyone for choosing me to be part of your family.
