Favourite things in the Garden

What a delight it is
When, of a morning,
I get up and go out
To find in full bloom a flower
That yesterday was not there

Tachibana Akemi, 1812-1868

There is something so right, in my opinion, about blue in the garden. If you have been this far then you will certainly be aware that I have many )or is that too many?) blue pots in the garden, including the jar shown in this picture (click on it to get a larger view):

I know the butterflies are rather kitsch, but hey! I'm not out to win prizes with this garden. It's to give me pleasure. The jar is quite a focal point in the garden - you cannot exactly miss something that large, and certainly not that colour!

However, blue isn't the only thing in the garden though. There are a number of decorative items around the garden such as the ones on the next few pictures:

1.Asleep in the Secret Garden 23-06-02.JPG (553803 bytes)   2.Small Boy 13-07-02.JPG (71911 bytes)   3.Poolside 13-07-02.JPG (163743 bytes)

Picture #1 shows the 'secret garden' where a sleeping cherub (actually its a putto because it doesn't have wings) sleeping on a large stone ball. #2 shows the poolside where, next to the jug that allows the water back into the pool, a small boy sits contemplating the water. #3 shows a Japanese influence with a lantern sitting on the rocks. Nearby is a bamboo which completes the image. I'm not sure if the frog is in keeping with a Japanese theme, but as I said before I'm not out to win prizes. Yes! I know - the dragonfly is more kitsch.

Sometimes things disappear in the garden. I know that is hard to believe when you consider how small the garden is! This woodpecker keeps hiding in the ivy that grows all round it.

Sometimes I forget to keep the ivy trimmed back and later have a nice surprise when I uncover it again.

Click on the daisy if you still like looking at gardening pictures.
