Akane had never in her life been so nervous. Five minutes before, she had been
standing in front of the Tokyo Association for Children's Housing's board of directors
and had given them all of her excuses of why her Children's Home should remain intact.
She now sat outside the conference room while the board members decided her and
her children's' fate. If this didn't go through the way she hoped, wished, *prayed*, she'd
just… well, she didn't know.

It seemed an eternity before the large wooden doors opened and Mr. Matsumoto, the
board director ushered her inside the room again. He took his seat at the end of the
large table before speaking.

"Miss Tendo," he spoke, addressing her, walking towards her. "We, the board, have
reviewed your information on the Nermia District Children's Home, taken into account all
of your concerns for the children, along with general fundamentals and such, and we
have decided that the Nermia District Children's Home will remain standing. You will
also receive a large grant, from the Tokyo Association of Children's Housing for any
repairs that you see fit." He handed her two pieces of paper.

Akane smiled. There it was, all in black and white. She could keep her Home and all of
the children. And the check, fifty-five million yen. She would have screamed with joy if
she could. "Oh, thank you, all of you. This means so much to me, and especially the
children."

Mr. Matsumoto smiled. "It is our pleasure, Miss Tendo."

Akane gathered her belongings, bowed, and left the building. She wasn't in a taxi two
seconds before her cell phone rang. "Hello?" she asked.

"Akane?" Came Sakura's worried voice.

"Sakura? What's wrong?" Akane asked, adrenaline pumping.

"It's the Home. Ran- I mean, Mr. Saotome- it's…" Sakura trailed off.

"WHAT?! What happened to the Home?" Akane was shouting.

"It's… you'd better get over here Akane." Sakura told her.

Akane took a deep breath. "I'll be there as soon as I can, Sakura."

"Bye." Akane hung up and told the driver to go straight to the Home's address. When
she arrived, she stepped out of the cab, paid him and gazed in utter horror at the Home.
Or what was left of it. It was a complete shambles. It looked like a wreaking ball had
slammed into the front of the Home several times, demolishing it completely. The only
thing that remained untouched was the stairs.

She couldn't believe it. The cruel irony of it all. It seemed just like someone knew she
was going-

"Akane?" She whipped around to see Ranma standing nearby.

"You!" she shrieked, walking towards him, her bags forgotten. "You… you had this
planned all along, didn't you! You were just waiting until I went to the Association. I
suppose it's true: 'when the cats' away, the mice will play'. But in this case, it's not a
mouse, it's more like a rat!" she was standing in front of him and she slapped him now,
hard.

"Akane, if you'll just listen…" Ranma pleaded, holding her arm.

"I think I've listened to you just a little too much and now look what it's done to me!" she
tried to push away from him, but he wouldn't release her.

"Just come with me for like, two seconds, okay?" he asked, signaling for a cab,
ignoring her arguing.

When they arrived, they got out and Ranma told Akane, "Close your eyes."

"This is stupid. Take me home! I never want to see you again, Ranma Saotome."
Akane said.

"Fine, if you're going to be that way about it," he covered her eyes with his hands and
turned her bout 180 degrees. "Ready?"

"Sure." She said hotly.

He removed his hands and she gasped. Before her stood a huge seven story building,
painted white with a large sign that read 'New Nermia District Children's Home'.
Shampoo came out of a set of large glass doors with Mousse and Sakura and waved.
"Is it great? New Home for children!"

Akane turned to look at Ranma. "You… you did this for me?"

He nodded, looking at the building. "Yeah. I figured you needed it more than Mr. Garata
did."

Akane's eyes went wide. "Old Mr. Garata? Who own's almost every stock in Japan?
He's rich Ranma! Why…?"

He smiled. "Oh, I don't know."

"But, Ranma," Akane argued. "You'll lose… tons of money!"

"So? What does it matter?" He paused for a moment. "I guess the real reason I did it
was because I… love you."

Did she hear right? He loved her? "What?"

He fished something out of his pocket and took her left hand. "I love you, more than
anything, Akane. Will you marry me?" He placed a diamond ring on her ring finger.

She gasped. But she knew the answer immediately. She'd always known it. "Oh
Ranma. Yes!" she kissed him there, right there in front of her new building on the busy
street. "I'm so sorry I said all of those things before."

"It's okay. I was kinda hoping you would." He said, putting his arm around her.

Akane looked puzzled. "But… Sakura-she called and…"

"It was a big trick to get you to come home quick." Ranma told her.

Akane smiled and hit him playfully in the ribs. "That's not nice."

"Well, future Mrs. Saotome, would you like a tour of your new building?" Ranma asked.

She smiled. "Yes, I would like that very much." And they crossed the street and
entered the new Home.

A few months later…

Akane sat at her new desk, in her new office, in her new Children's Home. The walls
were painted light blue, one of her favourite colours, and everything in the building was
brand new.

She heard Sakura answering the phone at her own brand new desk, "Hello, Nermia
District Children's Home, how may I help you?"

Akane smiled. "Akane?"

"Yes?" she asked.

"A Ms. Wantana for you." Sakura said.

"Thanks, Sakura." She picked up the phone. "Hello, Akane Saotome here. How can I
help you Ms. Wantana? Why, yes, we are doing just fine. Thank you. Oh, no, I
couldn't." she laughed. "In memory? All right, but we'll name it after you, Ms. Wantana.
Thank you very much. We appreciate it. Bye."

"So, how goes it?" Ranma asked, leaning against the door frame.

Akane gasped. "Must you always do that? You scared me half to death."

He walked towards her desk. "Sorry. How are you feeling?"

Akane stood balancing herself. "I'm fine." She said, patting her swollen belly. "It won't
be long."

Ranma walked over and kissed his wife. "I'll be with you the whole time."

"I know," Akane said. "Your parents will be overjoyed, once they return from their trip to
Paris. Why haven't you called them to tell them?"

"Well, Mother and Pop don't really stay in one place too long, so bye the time I figure out
where they are, they're gone again. But they'll find out, soon enough that they'll have an
heir.

"Or an heiress." Akane said, smiling.

"Or an heiress." Ranma said, kissing her.

Sakura stood at the door for a moment. "Ranma, you have a visitor waiting you."

"Well, duty calls. Bye." He kissed her again and went to his office next to hers. Sakura
smiled and left the room.

Akane walked to the window and smiled to herself. Maybe, in the end, everything did
turn out right.

The end.
