Chapter I: Enter Ranma, Stage Right

"Akane will not believe this!" Said a purple haired girl to her friend.

"Oh, really? Tell me, Shampoo." Akane said as the two walked down the streets
of Tokyo.

"Shampoo meet really cute guy last night!" The Chinese girl bubbled.

"Really, Shampoo? That's great! So, tell me all about him." Akane said.

Shampoo smiled. "He is tall, and he have glasses, but pretty eyes. Oh, Shampoo
forget to mention that he from China, like Shampoo. His name is Mousse."

"He sounds like a winner, Shampoo." Akane said, smiling.

"Oh, Akane know what! Mousse have friend and-" Shampoo was cut off by her
friend.

"Nu-uh. No way, Shampoo. No blind dates, please." Akane told her.

"Come on, Akane. He perfect for you! And not too bad looking either." Shampoo
smiled, and then hurried up to her friend, who had continued on without her. "Oh,
Akane, give Ranma a chance."

Akane stopped and turned to Shampoo. "No! I hate it when you set me up for a
blind date! I hate having to go on a date with someone I've never met, all by
myself."

Shampoo smiled deviously. "That the beauty of Shampoo's plan! Akane no go on
date by herself. She go on date with Shampoo, Mousse and Ranma!"

"No way!" Akane retorted.

"Too bad! Tomorrow, Akane go with Shampoo! Akane meet Ranma and
everyone have good time! Shampoo already promised!" Shampoo gushed.

"Shampoo! I can't believe you!" she said.

"Now Akane have to go, for honour's sake." Shampoo offered.

Akane looked defeated. "Yeah, I know. And I'm sure you knew that when you
promised." Akane turned off of the sidewalk and up to her small, one story house.
Shampoo followed.

Shampoo seemed elated. Finally, the girl was getting it! "Yes! How else would
Shampoo get Akane to meet him?!"

Akane turned halfway in the doorway and gave her friend a knowing look. "What
time?"

"Huh? Oh, time for date! Six o'clock." Shampoo entered in behind Akane.
"Shampoo know Akane will love Ranma."

"Oh really. And how might Shampoo know that?" Akane asked, setting her purse
down on the kitchen counter.

The Chinese girl just smiled. "Shampoo just know is all."

Akane gave her friend a puzzled look.

"Oh, look, it getting late. Shampoo have things to do tomorrow morning.
Shampoo see Akane later!" Shampoo made her way for the front door.

Akane looked about her house, the quietness of it, the loneliness of it. Akane
sighed, the depression setting in for the night.

"Shampoo, I'm not sure about this." Akane said, turning to her friend.

"Akane, you promised!" Shampoo exclaimed.

"Wrong-o! You promised me! To some guy! I feel like I'm *betrothed*!" she said,
running a brush through her short hair for the fiftieth time.

Shampoo marched over and grabbed the hair brush, which startled Akane.
"Akane, it will be okay. Ranma will love you! Akane see."

"That's what I'm afraid of." It was then that the door bell rang.

Shampoo squealed like a giddy school girl. "It's Mousse!" and she took off to the
living room.

"This will be one of those nights to remember," Akane muttered to herself as she
followed Shampoo out into the living room.

Shampoo began the introductions. "Akane, this is Mousse."

He was just as Shampoo had said; tall, long hair, as for the eyes, she couldn’t tell
because of the Coke-bottle glasses, but she trusted her friend. "Hello Mousse."

"Mousse, this is Akane. Akane, This is Ranma,"

Akane looked up to greet her blind-date for the evening and her greeting died on
her lips. Now, Shampoo could talk about pretty eyes all she wanted, because as
far as Akane was concerned, Ranma didn't have just plain `pretty' eyes; they were
beautiful. Gorgeous. "Uh..." she was at a total loss for words.

Shampoo looked over at her friend and then smiled. `' she thought in Chinese. "Ranma, this is Akane."

He smiled, having already had his turn to be stunned by Akane. She was the most
attractive woman he'd ever met. For some reason, his heart was beating faster.
"Hi, how are you?"

Akane, seeming to have recovered from her shock, smiled back now. "I'm fine,
thank you."

"Well, should we get going?" Mousse asked.

At the club that night, and quiet a few drinks later, Shampoo, Mousse, Ranma and
Akane were all crowded near the dance floor.

The whole group was laughing as Shampoo clung to Mousse drunkenly.

Mousse laughed. "You should've seen Ranma and me at this one club, a year ago
I think. Anyway, we were both standing there and all of a sudden, like fifteen girls
come running up to Ranma and are like crawling all over him!" He laughed again.

Akane, who hadn't had as much to drink as the others stopped laughing and a
small frown appeared on her face. Shampoo was the only one who saw.

"Hey, guys thanks, but I've got to be up early tomorrow. Thanks, it was a lot of fun,"
Akane forced a smile and grabbed ber purse and headed for the club entrance.

Shampoo gave her a total of thirty seconds and then turned to Mousse. "Shampoo
have to go power her nose. Be back in no time!" and she bounced off after
Akane, leaving the two friends behind. She soon caught up with Akane out side as
she was hailing a cab.

"Akane! What wrong?" Shampoo asked.

"Oh, nothing." her friend lied.

Shampoo frowned, not buying it. "Yeah, right. And Shampoo speak perfect
Japanese. Was it what Mousse say back there? About Ranma and girls?"

A cab pulled over and Akane turned to her friend. "Oh, Shampoo it doesn't make
any difference. I'll talk to you later, okay?" She opened the car door and got it and
the cab drove off.

"Hey, Shampoo!" the purple-haired girl turned to see Ranma and Mousse exiting
the club.

She marched over to Mousse and hit him on the arm.

"Hey!" he cried out. "Whaddya do that for?"

Shampoo was angry. "Why for you say that in there? Mousse make Akane feel
funny, not know what do!" she huffed a bit. "Shampoo not know what do with
Mousse sometimes."

Mousse looked sorry. "Hey, Shampoo, I'm sorry, I wasn't thinkin', you know."

Shampoo gave him a look before Ranma chimed in. "Hey, I'll explain it to her. It's
okay."

"No! Is better if Mousse do it." Shampoo retorted.

"Nah, it's okay. I'll do it." he said.

"Hmmm... okay, but not tonight. Tomorrow maybe, is okay?" Shampoo asked.

Ranma nodded. "Yeah, tomorrow's fine."

Author's Notes:

Well, this story started out *completely* different. It didn't even have anything to do
with anime! It was about this girl named Jeane and her friend Amber and Amber
meets this guy who she introduces to Jeane, named Tom. Well, Tom and Jeane
are total opposites, she likes classical, soft rock music; he likes punk rock, that
kind of thing. Which is where the title comes into play. Actually, the title comes
from The Beatles hit song, 'Hello, Goodbye'. It's an amazing song; I suggest you
listen to it sometime.
