A portion of a 1910 map of Ashton-under-Lyne, England, showing the National Gas Engine works. The donor of this map (a visitor to our website), says that even in the mid-1960s, the factory employed hundreds of people, but that by the 1970s that place was deserted. The various other modern notes shown on the map are not relevant to this study.
