The Power Station in the 1930s

The northern end of the power station. The presence of the small concrete room (which contained switch gear) on the left suggests this photo was taken after the mid-1930s. A copy of the photo held in the city library collection (BM10) suggests that it was taken around 1939 and that the photographer was K.H. Shea. The water cooling towers (left) were removed about 1985 when Keith Street was put through to Napier Road. (Photo: Power Station Records, PNCC Archives, Palmerston North City Archives)
