Power Station Staff
In time this page will contain names of known power station staff. Since we've been involved with preserving the power station, a number of people have contacted us to say they or their relatives once worked there.
Over the years many staff members lived at various times in one or the other of the two Council-owned power station houses. These houses, pictured above in December 2000, are another area to be covered as part of the power station precinct concept. The three houses shown were originally of identical design. The two on the left were occupied by power station staff, while the one of the right was occupied by a staff member from the city gasworks that was sited next door to this site - obscure on the right of the photo. All three houses are now in private ownership.
The houses front Napier Road (SH3), and this photo was taken from Limbrick Street. The power station is visible above the houses. Until about the 1970s, the houses and power station were connected by an ordinary driveway. However, as the area developed, the driveway became a small road (Cessna Street) and then the road was linked through to the existing Keith Street (above the hill), and the lower portion also became Keith Street. Cessna Street is now just a cul-de-sac off Keith Street that runs off opposite the power station.
If you or your relative once worked at the power station, please contact us or leave a message in our Guest Book, accessed on the Front Page.
