Around the state of Arizona, in the late forties, the fifties, and into the sixties, if you were not mounted on a Lucky Blanton bred rope horse, you were definitely not favored at any of the ropings held in that area.

Lucky Blanton was foaled by Burns Blanton, of Bowie Arizona, and his sire was the well known rope horse Mark, owned and ridden by Carl Arnold, of Buckeye, Arizona. A closer look at Lucky Blantons pedigree reveals that he was triple bred Traveler, coming through both of his grandsires and his paternal granddam.

This fine looking young stallion was sort of an orange sorrel, was about 15.1, and weighed in at roughly 1250 when in working condition. He was very smooth muscled and had a very muscular hind end. Those who remember the horse say he had an excellent disposition, was very trainable and easy to be around.

In the year 1942, Lucky Blanton was purchased by the rancher and prominent roper Tom Mattart, and this was the start of one of the most illustrious roping carrers experienced at any time by any horse. Mattart took the newly purchased horse to California, and for the next six years Lucky Blanton became a living legend among ropers and match racers alike.

When Lucky Blanton turned twelve, he was retired to stud by Mattart, and over the rest of his life would produce almost two hundred registered foals, eighteen of which went to the racetrack, and an even greater number became known for their athleticism and predisposition to being good rope horses.

Known regionally in Arizona, California, and Nevada, Lucky Blantons offspring have become recognised over an even larger area as the years have gone by.
