Tempting Air

by

David Voelkel

I've looked for answers
Put some blames on night,
Put some blames on days,
Searched for answers uptight.

Built sharp pains from pressure
With fortune and fright.
Burning tobacco from each stick I light,
May it be real
May I see desert trees--
Of the rain from the summits
Making this reality of mine
Totally free.

Why?

by

Tanya Jones

Why is there so much hate
in this world full of love?
Why do we do the things we do
when God is watching from above?
Why is there prejudice and ignorance
all around?
Why are there bigots
in almost every single town?
What will this world become of
in the future generation?
Will we be able to unite
into one whole nation?
Why does there have to be violence
when we can talk it out?
Why do we fight and bicker,
what is it all about?
Are there any solutions
to this world full of hate?
Can we forget all the problems
whose amount is so great?
When will the homeless be helped
when will kids be fed?
If nobody acts on it soon
they will all be dead.
I wish we would all unite
with everyone at peace,
But with all the crimes and problems
it'll take more than weeks.
What is wrong with our nation
why can't we all be friends?
This world would be a better place
if all our wars could end.

Rusty Heart

by

F.L. Gaines

When your dreams all turn to fancy,
And your fancy turns to dust,
And your heart sits in the corner,
Growin' moss and dirt and rust,

Remember there's a girl out there
With sparkle in her eye,
An' she's the one who'll love ya'
Until the day you die.
