Betrayed
She cries alone in
her bed
the moonlight on her
face
The unbelief of such
betrayal
her mind cannot erase
~
The very thought of
anything
they may have shared
together
Only makes her feel
that she will
feel like this forever.
The feeling of rejection
is foremost in her
mind
While she wonders
what "she" offered him
on their fantasy hotline
~
She agonises at the
thought
of the intimacy they
shared
With words they spoke
in heated tones
enticing an affair.
An image forming in
her mind
as tears fell from
her eyes
She did nothing to
deserve this;
she could not imagine
why ~
Was life with her
that unhappy
that he wanted to
engage
In an affair with
a girl
who was almost half
his age.
He told her that he
loved them both
but he could not decide
Which of them he wanted
more
to sleep by his side
~
And like a knife through
her heart
it pained her to the
core
That he wanted someone
else
he said that he loved
more.
She tried not to think
about
that ominous phone
call
When he laid it out
to bear
and was prepared to
lose it all ~
He said "she" made
him feel young again
with "her" he felt
alive
And that "she" would
fulfill him
with an equally "wild"
drive.
Feelings of hurt and
anger
rejection and of pain
And hatred at the
mention
just of her name ~
Betrayed by the both
of them,
her husband and a
friend,
The sacred trust between
them
she could no longer
depend.
How it pained her to
hear him say
the private words
they shared
The intimacy of their
conversation
was already an affair
~
Although they never
shared a bed
there are more ways
than one
To be unfaithful and
betray,
when all is said and
done.
She could not bear
to think about
the two of them together
Sharing private moments
reserved only for
each other ~
For the sacred bond
of marriage
between a husband
and a wife
Should be loved, honoured,
cherished
and respected for
life.
As tears fell at the
memory
she could not understand
Why he would forsake
her
for another woman's
hand ~
And though they'd
only engaged
in a telephone affair
It still was a betrayal,
with the private thoughts
they shared.
So she cries alone
in her bed
as tears fall down
her face
The pain and hurt
at the betrayal
her mind still can't
erase ~
And when she tries
to fall asleep
the night seems to
last forever
For everytime she
closes her eyes
she can still see
them together.

"This is a very personal
poem. It is about the betrayal of a husband and a betrayal of a friend.
It is painful to even consider something like this happening to us, but
it happened to someone I know. I pray it never happens to you."
