She
wanders in the shadows
there's
a stillness in the air
With
only the light of the silvery moon
reflecting
upon her hair ~
She
stops to see the beauty
and
admires from afar
The
studded jewels in velvet black,
to wish
upon a star.
As she
stands upon the balcony
she
sees the life below
Of lovers
walking hand in hand
with
their hearts aglow ~
She
sees them stop to steal a kiss
as she
feels within her heart
That
life could never be complete
as long
as they're apart.
She closes
her eyes with a smile
with
the memory of the night
She
felt his stare across the room
like
a beacon in the night ~
Their
eyes met just for a moment
but
felt like eternity
As by
the light of the silvery moon,
she
knew it could never be.
But it
began with stolen moments
of strolls
in the park
Meetings
in the moonlight
and
rendevous in the dark ~
Like
a breath of wind at midnight
his
fingers in her hair;
It was
never meant to be more
than
just a love affair.
With
him she felt a passion
she
never knew before
That
left her feeling complete
though
still she begged for more ~
And
though it wasn't meant to be
more
than just an affair
She
knew she was in love with him
and
the tenderness they shared.
So they
bought a place of their own
somewhere
to share their lives
Though
content with what they had
she'd
never be his wife ~
Their
stolen moments that stretched to weeks
of passion-filled
nights
When
they enjoyed one another
under
the silvery moonlight.
Though
he always went back home
she'd
keep remembering
That
she was now something more than just
"the
other woman" to him ~
Together
they shared their lives
so much
more than an affair,
For
soon she knew the day would come
when
every morning he'd be there.
But a
surprise was in store for them
an unexpected
pregnancy
And
she saw a side of him
that
she could not believe ~
He accused
of her of trying to trap him
to push
him to leave his wife
And
that he didn't want to be a part
of this
new baby's life.
Stunned,
she was hurt and confused
she
thought she meant more to him
But
obviously she was just his dirty
little
secret fling ~
While
the house they bought together
she
now lived in all alone
As she
promised herself and her child
she
would make for them a home.
So as
she gazes at the velvet black
star-studded
sky
She
makes a wish for her child,
as a
tear falls from her eye ~
The
lovers that stroll in the park
cannot
comprehend
A life
without the one they love,
can
still come to an end.
With
the moonlight on her face
she
wonders what went wrong
But
she always knew it could never be,
she
knew that all along ~
He was
never her's to love
and
she should've never been
Under
the spell of the silvery moon
and
captured by its gleam.
As the
tears fall down her face
she
feels the breath in her hair
And
as she turns to find the eyes
of her
lover standing there;
She
sees the tears in his eyes
as he
gently takes her hand
He shares
with her his deepest fear
and
hopes she'll understand.
Her heart
reaches out to him
as he
tells her of his pain
When
he lost a child some years ago,
he couldn't
stand that pain again ~
But
he never meant to hurt her
he loved
her more than life,
As he
kneeled down before her
and
asked her to be his wife.
Surprised
with tears in her eyes
she
said that could never be
He had
a family of his own,
they
were never meant to be ~
But
then he said he'd left his wife
for
the love they shared
And
under the spell of the magical moon
he promised
he'd always be there.
Now they
gaze together at the moonlight
and
the star-studded sky
Enveloped
by their lasting love
that
will never die ~
And
by the light of the silvery moon
the
promise that they'll be
Together
until their final breath
for
all eternity.

"Like
a forbidden love, this poem is about an affair between a married man and
a vulnerable young woman. The poem is from the "other woman's" point
of view. We see her as a vulnerable beautiful young woman,
caught up in the magic of the moment they met ~ a beautiful moonlit night,
and its romance. Whether the guy in this equation just wanted
"a bit on the side" at first, but ended up falling in love with her, is
not apparent, though to me, as the writer, I think he lived a marriage
of convenience that died when the child he mentioned toward the end, died.
This woman reminded him of his youth and she accepted him they way he was,
and loved him just the same. And he loved her just as much.
Hence, why at the end he chose to share his most painful secret with her,
opening the way for a new kind of relationship together.
I'm not
saying that this excuses the actions or behaviour of a man who has an affair
or leaves his wife for his mistress. It isn't something that I agree
with. This is just a love poem, with a difference."
