Emanating beauty
the stillness from within
And haunting eyes that mystify
the one that dares to dream ~
Of passion and desire
with such sweet mystery
Mother Earth's golden child;
her name is Cherokee.

Adorned with a loveliness
that has graced her heart
The fairness that she bestows
is one that she imparts ~
With her pure innocence
her elegant beauty
Shines from deep within her soul,
the spirit of Cherokee.

She lives with simple pleasures
she knows no other life
And passion and desire
is for husband and wife ~
She has no idea she emanates
an alluring mystery
That captivates every man
who desires Cherokee.

Cherokee, your loveliness
so pure and innocent
Illuminates the many hearts
who see your elegance ~
You shine with such a beauty
everywhere you go
And every man wants to know
the pleasure you bestow.

Cherokee, my Cherokee,
life has taught you well
For there are some things in life
that you can never sell ~
Your innocence is a virtue
a valued commodity
And if they so desire
you'll remain their mystery.

Life has many things to offer you
you have but one to live
But the gift of a true love
is one you shall receive ~
Choose this day whom you desire
to take unto your bed
Remembering, my Cherokee,
that he's the man you'll wed.

Her captivating charm
she could not even see
As she stood before the many men
who desired her beauty ~
Shining in her all her fairness
her grace and purity,
Her haunting eyes searched for the one
who'll marry Cherokee.

A silent man that stood apart
from all the other men
Did not even come tonight
to take her to his bed ~
But as he sat there in the night
beneath the guiding moon
Cherokee found her eyes upon
this one man in the room.

He radiated a mystery
she found alluring
As she felt deep desire
burn from her soul within ~
Oblivious to the emotion
that had now chosen him to be
The man who'll share the passion
with the sweet Cherokee.

As she slowly made her way to him
he met her haunting stare
Though captivated by her grace
the thought that he would share,
A life so rich in beauty
and all he has dreamed of
This woman they call Cherokee
has chosen him to love.

His heart filled with desire
as he took her in his arms
Enveloped with the passion
of her captivating charm ~
He led her to the stillness
of his darkened room
And there he made love to her
by the light of the moon.

When morning rose to greet them
the plans were underway
For the joining of these two hearts
to love, honour and obey ~
And as they took each other's hands
so ended the mystery
Of the man who stole her heart
and the woman called Cherokee.

"For as long as I could remember I have loved the name Cherokee.  I first heard the name in a movie called "True Women", and at once I loved it.  Recently, the movie was on TV again and my husband and I watched it, and he quite enjoyed it, as I did the second time around too.  I guess it was seeing the movie again that inspired me to write a poem about a young Indian girl called Cherokee, whose beauty and mystery has men in awe of her, and desiring her.  But as we see in this story, Cherokee must chose whom she desires....remembering that this man will be the man she weds.  In an ironic twist, she chooses the man who she finds as alluring as the other men see her, and this man didn't even set out to snare her.  But as soon as he sees her, he too is captivated by her haunting eyes and her beautiful charming innocence.  The next morning they are married ~ and so ends the mystery of beautiful Cherokee, for now she belongs to another, who was just as mysterious as she.  A beautiful romantic tale between a young girl and a man we see who could be older than her, which is probably what she found so alluring about him, besides the mystery that surrounded him.  She found that attractive in this man....and although he thought she was beautiful, he had never "lusted" after her as many other men did.  She was young and he respected that.  She was innocent, and he found that charming.  He did not expect to wed her.  But he did....for she chose him.  And so ends the romantic tale of Cherokee, for now she belongs to another."
