Daddy's Girl

I know I don't always tell you
but I thought that I would say
Just how much you mean to me
each and every day -
I know I don't say what I feel
or how precious you are to me
You're an important part of my life
and you will always be.

I know I don't often show you
what is in my heart
The thoughts I feel, the dreams I dream
the values you impart -
I know I don't always let you know
how grateful I am for you
Your love, your guidance and support
and strength in which I grew.

But I know that I show my love
in many different ways
From a phone call to a thoughtful gift
to sharing happy days -
And I know you know I'm grateful
for all you've given to me
Sharing an unspoken bond
between you and me.

So when I send little heartgifts
to show how much I care
An e-mail or a letter
sealed with love to share -
I'm letting you know I love you
in good times and in bad
Wrapped in love, grown in strength
in the shadow of my dad.

"I wrote this poem for my dad for his birthday.   When I was little, I was daddy's little girl, and now that I have grown I am still his girl though I have grown in the shadow of him.    My dad and and I never tell each other how we feel, we just know.   Dad was never one for expressing his feelings, and today like him, I find it hard to express my own sometimes.  But one thing has remained ~ I still love my dad, and I am still his girl."
