~ Forbidden Love ~

She steals a glance behind her
as she tiptoes out the door
A morning jog along the beach,
she heads towards the wharf ~
She knows that it's forbidden
but she feels within her heart
Her every thought comes back to him
whenever they're apart.

She had laid awake last night
his face etched in her mind
With eyes that looked into her soul
and stopped the hands of time ~
He knew and understood her
and she knew she felt the same
But the tears in her heart told her
she couldn't see him again.

She had tried to stay away from him
it was too dangerous
So many people would be hurt
by her unfaithfulness ~
But with every waking hour
she would long to see his face
And the smile that took her cares away
in the warmth of his embrace.

She knew she shouldn't see him
but she had come to depend
On their quiet moments together
when they were only friends ~
But something more had happened
that she didn't understand
A stolen kiss, a look of love,
as she gently took his hand.

She knew no one would understand,
but what was she to do?
And knowing that to herself
she must remain forever true ~
She would only be unfaithful
to ignore what's in her heart;
For she always wanted to be with him
whenever they were apart.

So when the morning sun arose
and she tiptoed out the door
She had come to a decision
that just confused her before ~
In the morning air it was clearer
as she jogged along the beach
To where her heart had always been
she thought was out of reach.

Down at the wharf he began his day
with her on his mind
And he wondered what she was doing
at this moment in time ~
Was it a game that she was playing
with that look in her eyes?
Did that kiss mean anything,
or was it only lies?

He thought he understood her
but where had he gone wrong?
Weren't they friends, or had it been
just a farce all along?
And where did that kiss come from?
Was it just a game?
For she later said it was a mistake
and she couldn't see him again.

He respected her decision
he knew how hard it must've been
For her to keep on seeing him
at the risk of being seen ~
But it didn't stop the way he felt
as he watched her walk away
Or the look he saw in her eyes
in his memory every day.

He missed the times they spent together
but it wasn't meant to be
Her father would've killed him
if he knew where she had been ~
He only wish he knew how she felt
and if it was the same
Because he just wanted to have the chance
to be with her again.

He imagined that he heard her
calling out his name
But the thought of her just cut him
like a knife through his pain ~
Then he turned to see her running
toward him on the sand
Was this just an apparition
holding out her hands?

Tears were running down her face
as she saw him on the wharf
Knowing that this was right for them
she had never been more sure ~
She called out his name to him
and as he turned around
She knew that what she felt for him
she'd searched for and had found.

Holding out her arms to him
she stopped to search his face
Then he reached out to kiss her
taking her in his embrace ~
She told him that she loved him
and he said that he felt the same
As she lost herself in his arms
he gently kissed her again.

The days that soon turned into months
these rendevous' they shared
Stolen moments, a look, a touch
of this forbidden love affair ~
Making time when they could
so they could be together
Sharing thoughts and feelings,
they understood each other.

Meetings by the rockpool,
or lunch at the wharf
The moments that they share together
they've never felt before ~
Forbidden to even see each other
they still knew within their hearts
That every thought comes back to them
every moment that they're apart.

Now she steals a glance behind her
as she tiptoes out the door
On her way to be with him,
she'll meet him at the wharf ~
Closer now, than ever,
and even more aware of
The special bond between them,
sharing forbidden love.

"Teenage love is a heartbreak....tortured teenage love in even worse!   That is something I never want to endure again.   Teenagers feel things so deeply, so passionately.   And that isn't to say what they feel isn't right, but it really hurts.   And nothing hurts like a forbidden teenage love....  That is the topic of my poem, based upon a storyline on one of our favourite soaps (and particularly as this one deals specifically with teenagers), where two teenagers enter forbidden territory.  Not because of their age or anything, but because the guy in this equation hurt the girl's family some time ago, but has paid for his sins.  The girl, a bit of a rebel, tries to stay away from him but gives in to her feelings for him.  I thought it a great topic for a poem....forbidden love."
