Heavy Metal Missionaries

People judge you by the way you look
and the way you wear your hair
But God looks only at your heart
not the sort of clothes you wear.

You gave your life to Jesus Christ
you pray and read God's Word
And now you're going out to share
the message you have heard.

You'll suffer for Christ and take the heat
and stand up for what's right
You'll plunder heaven and conquer satan
and turn darkness into light.

You take God's Word into the streets
for the Bible is our key
For sex and drugs and hate and fear
will never set them free.

You're not afraid to make a stand
where ever you may go
You want them to have the love you have
and know the God you know.

Your heavy metal music reaches
to all the souls who search
You touch the hearts of those
who would never go to church.

Your quest to save the lost souls
living on the streets
Has been a blessing to all who listen
to the words of God you speak.

And so you've led many lives to Christ
with the helpful things you say
For in your heart lives the Answer
for all the world today.

"When I was in my teens I was introduced to Christian heavy metal music, which was just as great as the others, but with a real message to all, and the first band I heard was Stryper. Amongst this scene I met many wonderful people who loved this music and had a "mission" in reaching out to those who also listened to heavy metal and those on the streets. They didn't look like "preachers" but the same as them, dressed in denim jeans, flannel shirts and t-shirts with bands and slogans on them and wearing long hair. These people related to them! I met one such person who was just that ~ a missionary on the streets, speaking to those who may never step into a church, and taking the Word to the streets. I wrote this poem about him and what he and many others were doing....regardless of whatever judgement they received."
