Just
Twenty-Four
Just twenty four, on
her way to work
A tragic victim of
fate
In the wrong place
at the wrong time
She never saw it till
too late.
The intensity of fear
upon her face
Knowing she was going
to die
Screaming as the car
collided with her's
That diminished to
a sigh.
The force of impact
crushed her
Into the passengers
seat
Broken bones in a
broken body
Twisted hands and
feet.
As she lay there in
a crumpled mess
Her car ripped in
two
Death was instantaneous
And so mercifully
too.
Such a tragic way to
end
A life she'll lead
no more -
She was so young,
too young to die
She was only just
twenty four.

"This poem is a shortened
version of the original Just Twenty-Four poem I wrote. I wrote this
version to enter in a poetry competition that required a maximum of 20
lines a poem. I placed as a semi-finalist and was published in their Anthology
book The Tide of Hours ~ it is the first time I have been published
and I was excited. It has always been my dream to be published as a poet."
The original version
of this poem is also featured on my site.
